I'm loving the paddle shift feature on the P-500, but I haven't learned how to make a smooth Down Shift. Any tips on this would be appreciated.

Hmm, I noticed if I let gas off completely downshifting then it jerks, so I keep some gas and it down shift smoother.

Very lightly decelerate as you shift down, lift off entirely it acts like you are wanting to stop.

If you are climbing/pulling/loading the motor, just wait until it pulls down the RPMs. Shifting is very smooth.

I usually don't shift into the L gear unless you want to creep down or up a hill. It also shifts smoother the more miles you put on it.

I've driven three of these, two of which shifted in too much of a lurch regardless.

I normally just be sure it's moving slow enough for the gear downshifting to and sometimes multiple downs. That took a while to catch on too. Upshifting a piece of cake holding the paddle for a pause while on the throttle.

Oh no! This reminds me of when I was learning to drive in our old 1949 Internationally pickup; 4 on the floor with a grandma low; double clutching required. I'll get it though.

Thanks guys. Lots of good info and suggestions on this little aggravation. If I don't get it after the first thousand miles, I'll be back for more learning :)

That's interesting. Are you saying pull the paddle towards you to shift and hold it there for a moment keeping your foot in the gas???

"L " is for climbing, crawling or towing otherwise always start in 2..
"2" covers 0-8mph (8 is sweet spot)
"3" covers 8-14mph
"4" covers 14 mph+
"5" I use on streets only
On my machine, these r the shifting sweet spots. I NEVER have a problem

On not up hill road to be precise :)

For me. 500oneer seems to be right. I have a total of 5 hours on mine. It is already shifting smoother. Noticed it on the street after I took it for it's first ride. Maybe I'm hearing things, but the rpm's seem to be settling out too, as the motor breaks in.
