Rotella T-6 for the engine. Redline Harley Trans shock proof for the sub.
Oils with moly in them are bad for wet clutchesUse a Moly heavy oil for the subtrans. Its butter smooth after some miles.

NoI rarely trust what a dealer tells me. I've been led down the wrong road too many times. Anyone else believe this?
Does a heavy moly oil like the honda hp4m seem to help with the gear whine? Is there something that is honda approved that would? I went to synthetic in the front and rear finals and I cant tell much differenceOnly use it in the sub trans, there isn't any transfer between the engine and sub trans oils.
I've only been a Honda Tech for 12 years i would never suggest moly oil in any wet clutch application.

Thinking more of the noise at speed. Low range seems louder than high, four wheel drive seems worse yet. No change since new so no problems are expected, but if a simple change of oil type would possibly quiet things a bit it would be worth doing. I have a hard time identifying where the noise comes from but i believe it is the sub transmission. Going to synthetic in the finals made no apparent difference. Are you referring to the noise at idle?
That noise is pretty much unavoidable, since the drive gear is sprung.
The gear whine in my Talon is painful, even for short distances, ear plugs or muffs are mandatory for me, even with my helmet. Sitting still idling isn't a problem. I'll be trying the moly in my sub tran and synthetic in the diffs after break-in. Do not put the moly in the engine/DCT.Thinking more of the noise at speed. Mine had a horrible gear whine from the front when 4WD was engaged, try changing your tire pressure. The front gear ratio is slightly different, try running 16psi front & 13-14psi rear, it will help. I also changed the front diff oil to Redline Shockproof. The combination of those 2 changes made the noise almost disappear.Does a heavy moly oil like the honda hp4m seem to help with the gear whine? Shockproof is good for the sub as well.Mine had a horrible gear whine from the front when 4WD was engaged, try changing your tire pressure. FYI, changing to Mobil 1 Synthetic gear oil made the front whine worse 🤷♂️
Light weight shock proof. Blue in color. Heavyweight is red color.Which weight of shock proof oil are you guys using?
1.35 quart.What is the capacity of the sub T? I'm lazy.... 🤣
1.35 quart.
For those interested in using Shockproof - the sub trans uses engine oil viscosity, don't be putting 75w-90 in it.
Owner's Manual says "SAE 10W-30, JASO T 903 standard MA, Pro Honda GN4 4-stroke oil (USA or& Canada) or Honda 4-stroke oil, or an equivalent engine oil"10w-40?
I was told by dealer to NOT use full syn because the clutches would start to stick after a few hundred miles. On my unit the shifting noise has really tamed down since the first 150miles have been put on it.
