Hey @JACKAL , I thought I saw your rig at the prison this past Saturday. My daughter and I rode over there from Windrock (trail 43 to Guillotine Ln) Thanks for sharing your build & adventures.

Chad
Yeah that place was hopping by 1pm, I bet there was 150 SXS there by the time we left Brushy about 2pm.

This was my 4th Pioneer, my third Pioneer 1000. I learned pretty much everything of what not to do with my first one over 5 years of owning it and seeing what others had done that didn't work out. Everything I added was for functional or protection of me or the machine.

Cowabunga!
Level 4 front and Level 5 rear shocks.

Got the shocks and tires on, initial impressions around the mountain hood are very positive. All small hits like deep potholes are completely absorbed, very smooth ride. 😎 I like need to get into some exposed rocky trails for full verdict.

Well, with the tires and shocks, I am officially done with my bolt-on bonanza 😁 Most everything was for function, only the headlights were more for show. Pretty happy with how everything turned out. Thanks everyone for following along, hope to see everyone next week at the 2024 HondaSXS.com Takeover.

1500 mile update and thoughts on a few items.

So it's been nearly 5 weeks since Takeover and have logged approximately 1000 miles after installing the Bandit Level 4 front and Level 5 rear Shocks with BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM3 UTV Tires.

THE GOOD
I absolutely believe the shocks are the best investment made of the 3 Pioneer 1000's I have owned and accessorized, I have nothing but praise for the overall improved ride at trail speed and bottom out resistance when hitting unexpected rocks.
Great Investment / Recommended Bandit level 4 shocks: https://www.banditutvsuspension.com/product-page/all-4-level-4-honda-pioneer-1000-shocks

The tires have proven to be a great overall performers no matter the trail conditions, the traction in typical East TN mud has been impressive and performance on rocky terrain was as good as I had hoped. They are showing no wear even with over 400 miles of the 1000 being on pavement.

Everything else is working great and really happy with the '24 P1K5D for my use case. Found out yesterday it runs out of fuel at 147 miles, it was a long day but a good one.

What a beautiful spot to run out of gas ⛽️ 😁 Fortunately I always carry 5 gal extra.

Well been a couple of months since posting anything on the P1K. So far 7 months and 3000 miles, all is good, just 3 oil changes since new. BF Goodrich tires are working great showing no wear thus far, really happy with them for ride, noise, traction, and wear.

Did a short 122 mile ride yesterday with the wife and doggos through Tackett Creek area.

So after being shown the convenience of the Milwaukee Packout system and versatility with boxes and mounting plate options then implementing that on the Talon 1000X-4, I got a couple of stainless steel bases to mount on the P1K5 seat backs.

Pretty darn happy I can just grab a box or 4 and snap them into another machine and ready to go in literally 1 minute. Happy with how it turned out.

I didn't buy any more boxes, just plates to use the boxes I got for the Talon. I have literally been using the same $35 Contico box (32" x14"x14") from Walmart since December 2015 in all 3 on my Pioneer 1000-5's so an upgrade every 9 years isn't too bad.

I just didn't want to transfer "stuff" from one box to another or F with tie downs on a packout that has a proven solution to hold it in place.

@JACKAL

A few questions on your build!
Why not a second battery?
Will the seats still flip up for passenger with the Milwaukee packout mounts?
Do you not feel the forward A arms are needed, even with allowing 30s for more ground clearance?

ReasonI ask is we had lots of trouble with certain trails at takeover back in 2022/2023 I can't remember which year it was. @Bama-Daniel was with us that trip. He cleared alot that we got hung up on. The top of world trail gave us lots of problems because trail was so rough and rutted. I haven't been down there since but wanted your take. I value your opinion greatly on here!!! Thanks

I just don't need a second battery, IF I need to winch much: A - I really F'ed up, B - I'll be running the engine. I don't need a stereo to offend people 2 states over, so no big power draw.

Yes my rear seats still flip up with the Packout mounts in place.

I feel that GOOD UHMW skids and A-Arm Guards on all 4 corners go a long ways to keep me from getting hung up, may drag a bit, but you can slide through the stuff with momentum. Also NO ONE makes A-arms that have bushings which will last as long as OEM, as many miles as I run, I don't have time to be messing with A-Arm adjustments from loose jam nuts and premature ejaculated bushings. Simple as that, not to mention it is inferior suspension geometry.

30" tires on a Pioneer 1000-5 is like 44"s on a Prius, don't belong, drives and handles like crap, period. Anyone trying to convince you otherwise it's too ashamed to admit they blew $2K on tires and A-arms that made the machine handle worse. Not to mention it beats the crap out of your steering rack and tie rods.

That's my opinion, like A holes, everybody has one. But I do what works for me not because it's cool or somebody else that runs 10% of the miles I do a year says it's better than Texas Roadhouse rolls. (That ought to tell you right there they be lying and don't know their but from a hole in the ground) 😁
