No old buses. We are going to be travelling nationwide in this beast, I have a budget of 5k and I don't do carburetors.
OH come on mopar, get you this Super Custom 5 window, drop a good wrecking yard 350 fuel injected motor in it and a roof mount AC and your Partridge Family is cruising in style!!!

You really should look hard to find a Cummins or Cat powered bus if possible I got my bus originally for 1800
Your mileage and durability will double

Nah, I don't give a damn about nostalgia on this one. Just reliability to get my s*** to the riding spot.

I'm looking at van nose buses. So we're looking at 6.5 turbo, power stroke or Duramax era. It will certainly be a diesel and certainly not a 6.0

Local or government auction may be a start to your search...or ebay

I contacted the school districts directly for a couple of these. They are required at 18 years to be replaced. Normally they go to auction but you can catch them prior sometimes.
The cummins can be found in the small busses however was special order and more commonly used in the big busses as the Isuzu and Powerstoke didn't hold up for those applications.

They replace them here at 10-12 years at a price of around 3500. I'd even take a 6.0 gasser, seems alot of them here have the 6.0 4l80e combo. That's a bullet proof setup

The 6.0 (Chevy) gasser sucks!
My brother has one in his 2500 HD with like 240k miles, still runs great. Too bad the truck is falling apart around it. What's your issue with it Monte? I've never heard much about them negative

That's what I've got too. It's got the fuel economy of the 1960's muscle cars with half the power. I hate the thing, my next 3/4 ton truck will either be the Duramax or I'll switch up altogether to the Dodge Cummins. I'm sick of starting at the bottom of a hill towing my 10,000 lb. toy hauler at 65 and doing 50 at the top with the rpm's at 4K watching the Duramax start at 65 at the bottom of the hill and be doing 75 at the top.

Dont be scared of the international dt466 they had an alison tranny hooked to them. Pre 04 they were the toughest diesel you could have. But might have only used them in the larger buses

The 360 was ok too. Anything inline 6 is pretty good. Not sure I've ever heard of a bad one. The cummins runs Allison behind it as well mine is the 545.
