P1000 Portals- help please!

I have a 2017 Honda pioneer 1000-5 LE, I’m planning to get 35’s and 6in portals... I need to know what percent gear reduction I should get in them, 30 or 45??? I would like more torque than stock but I don’t want to over kill it and be super slow... thanks!

I’m getting superatv terminator max 35’s. And I plan on getting a tuner soon also. And mostly trail and mud.

Donkey, does your machine have plenty power with the 30%? That’s all I’m worried about, so right now I have 29.5 terminators and when I get in thick mud it doesn’t want to turn them... so when I get the 35’s and portals I don’t want the same issue

Yes it has good power. I have the Silber tune, but being over geared is where it is at, the extra toque if nice and and I can still go 50mph if needed on the roads around here. Also I think that reverse is final geared right and not too high. Post pics then yours is done.

So you’ve had no issues with it bogging down in thick mud or anything? And yes I’m fine with being a little over geared, I do want the extra torque for sure! I just didn’t want to get the 45% and it be to much. And 30% not be enough to have a little bit more power and torque than stock.

Well I can't answer for mud, I live in Az and we don't get much mud around here, but climbing some steep hill they do help. Good luck with your build.

If your starting off with 35’s and no tune I’d go 45 %so you have some room to grow. If you are certain you will stay at 35” tires and you know you are getting it tuned then go with 30%

I was pleased with mine on 30% running 38’s but it is tuned, has full exhaust, Talon intake and full 3” snorkel.

That is some good info. Kinda what I been looking to hear. I will for sure be getting it tuned and I will for sure not be going bigger than 35’s. So going off what your telling me I think 30% will be good for me!
