P500 Rectifier getting extremely hot

Had to replace the voltage regulator on my ‘17 P500. Its overcharge failure also damaged/swelled the battery. Returned an aftermarket rectifier (plugs did not fit) and replaced with OEM one and new battery. Ok since. Here’s my original post.

Multi - Help. Voltage high and climbing

Voltage output climbs while running, went up to 17.7 in first 20 seconds and climbing when turned the engine off. Engine off, battery reads 12v. The climbing voltage is causing a radio to cycle off as the radio works constantly just off battery 12v. May be the reason I had to replace the...

Be sure to monitor it regularly for a while. It's not uncommon (at least when I used to ride 5th and 6th Gen Honda VFRs) for the stator and/or connections to be the root cause, and the regulator/rectifier burning out is/was only a symptom of the actual problem.

It's been a while since I have tested any stators. I don't know it the 500 has a single phase or three phase stator. Either way, you want to check the stator (single or all three legs) to each other and to ground.
