Spent a couple hours swapping the OEM springs on some new Fox QS3 fronts (3P) and rears (5P) with Viper linear rate springs (F: 250#/R: 300#). Would like to find time tomorrow to get them swapped out on the bike, but it's a busy weekend.

Got off my dead ass and finally swapped out the OEM cushions for the Fox QS3's with the 250F/300R Viper coils today. What a difference.

Just need to install the offset A-Arms (have to order the rears) and Trail Armor skid plate set before TO.

Installing the TA skids today. All panels are secure, just putting all the rest of the screws in tomorrow. Going with their self-tappers for now, will likely R&R with rivnuts down the road.

Amazing what a flimsy POS the OEM skids are.

More pics when it's done.

Finished installing the Trail Armor skid plate kit today. These skids are solid AF!

Everything lined up nice except one OEM bolt (gonna grind down the side of one of the OEM bowl washers and that will work nicely) and, in two spots, the included self-tapping screws were just a couple threads too short, so I'll either start with Rivnuts there or just grab two longer screws for the time being.

Sorry for the crappy pics, but I installed the skids without lifting or tilting the bike, so those are the pics you get!

Just have to install the matching A-Arm guards (tomorrow).

Installed the Trail Armor A-Arm guards all the way around this AM. No need to remove the wheels like the directions suggested - way too easy to just work around them.

Have I said how impressed I was with the TA skid material? 1/2" UHMW is some serious bidness!

Added a dual USB 3.0 socket on the backside of my RAM mount for my Samsung Tablet so I could get rid of the dangly cable that ran from the rearview mirror down to the other identical USB 3.0 socket on the dash. Permanent power for that plus a second USB 3.0 socket for if/when I add something else up there that needs a little juice.

Programming the NOT 47 CFR Part 95 Subpart E accepted radio and readying it for installation in the P1K5.

And while not a 95e compliant radio, I have my ZA (GMRS) license and my HA (amateur/ham) license (just passed the Technician exam), so I didn't want to install TWO radios on the SXS. If the FCC police want to hunt me down, they can knock themselves out. LOL.

I think I posted this in the other forum area (Trucks, Trailers, and RV's), but I wanted to add it here to my build thread because ... well, why not.

A few weeks back, I picked up a new all aluminum '23 Rance Rough Rider 6.5' x 12' all-aluminum SA trailer with a bi-fold gate. Weighing in at only ~660#, this gives me about 2,330# of payload to play with. Got a spare tire/wheel as well as a nice spare tire carrier that I'll have my bro MIG that baby on somewhere. Likely add a nice aluminum tool box to the front tongue area.

Today, ordered 26' of galvanized eTrack, a variety of fasteners, as well as four of the Erickson Adjustable Wheel Net with E-Track Fittings. Should get the job done.

The UPS truck and the FedEx truck were here @ the exact same time today. I was hoping there was gonna be a throwdown! 🤣

Somehow, the box of eTrack hardware that was shipped at the same time as the eTrack itself didn't make it on this truck. ETA is mañana.

Gathering the bits for mounting the Anytone AT-778UV. RAM mount products, of course. Same hose clamp style roll cage mount as my Samsung tablet setup.

Got off my ass, grabbed a drink, headed out to the pole barn, and installed the Anyone AT-778UV dual band radio and the Tram 1181 dual band antenna. Have I told you how much I love RAM mount products?

For the antenna mount, I wasn't too concerned with a ground plane (will mostly use for GMRS, but I am a licensed ham), so I went with a cage mount. Someone in another thread recommended the Xaxia Alloys mount - it was a little spendy (damn near half the cost of the radio!), but very well constructed. I have the antenna roughly 4 inches above the roofline on the driver's side. If it gets hosed, not to worry, it's only about $30. Prolly switch to a Midland MXTA25 3Db gain Ghost antenna if that happens, or lower the mount and use a Midland MXTA26 6Db gain whip that I could hid under the roofline when heading into trees, garages, or enclosed trailers.

The missus and I tested the rig out with a Baofeng UV-5R on the other end and all was well. I do think I need to mount an external powered speaker, as I know the P1K5 will be pretty loud, but I'll figure that one out. Not sure where the mic will hang, so I have to figure that out as well.

Got started with the SuperATV A-Arms install this evening. One corner down, three to go.

New tires & wheels should be here tomorrow.

Finished the SATV a-arms on the rear of the P1K5 this afternoon. It sure does go faster on the second side once you know what you need to do from the first side!

I'll probably get to work disassembling the fronts, but I can't install the new a-arms up there until SAT, as my brother is coming over to MIG some gussets in to the (weak single tab design) front upper a-arm brackets as well as install the weld washers from the HondaSXS Club store front upper control arm bolt weld washer repair kit.

I think the bronze Tusk Uinta Beadlocks look pretty good with the Honda Phantom Camo pattern.

1681331035031 1681331074148

Got a *smidge* of negative camber right now. Gonna put some miles on and see how things settle, but that's just about where I think I'm gonna like it.

Time to get working on the fronts!
