I don't think there'd be any problem using rivet nuts. Loading is primarily in shear, which should be almost as good as a weld-on nut plate for that application. I used rivet nuts for mounting the light bar brackets on my P1K-5, through only the outside of the gusset, as I didn't want to use through bolts. It's supporting a fair load with the 54" light bar.
