The Purchase: 07-16-20
Hello All! I don't think I have made an introduction yet. I have been on here for awhile now. My wife and I are from central MO. We recently purchased our first home on 20 acres almost a year ago. We have had a couple Honda 4 wheelers for maybe 4 years now and enjoyed the off road fun they provide. When we moved to our house we realized the benefits of having off road machines. Our jobs quickly outgrew the 4 wheelers. We have a 1984 trx200 and a 96 300ex. Our final decision came when harvest of our gardens came time and the use of a quick mode of transportation with heavy pulling capacity was desired. In our research we wanted something decent. It started at tractor supply with the Massimo then realized for a couple grand more you could get into a base ranger. Then the thought process emerged that we could have family ride with us in the side by side, especially when we make our trips to the off road parks. So we decided it needed at least 4 seats. Then realized 4 seats create a side by side limo that does not turn so graceful. My wife came to me and mentioned there is a side by side she found that the rear seats fold in and out of the rear. It keeps the short wheelbase and has a dump bed. Lo and behold a Pioneer had been built! We started doing our research into the Honda and found it had pretty much everything mechanical that you could desire. We made the decision that this is the machine for us. We contacted a dealer and went to see it in person. We wanted a white one. At this time covid was starting to become a thing and was pushing dealer inventory into the unknown. No one local had a white one. We had 2 dealers politely warn that the white would be an unknown delivery. So we started making calls to the local dealers. No one wanted to haggle prices. Thru 5 Honda dealers none were willing to budge from msrp and all claimed low inventory or no inventory. I found a local powersports dealer who sells everything from boats, atvs, golf carts, all name brands. 1.5 hours away and he had 2 2020 camo deluxe 1000-5 machines for 17,325 OTD on pallets ready for build and purchase. He said he wasn't aware of low inventory and when asked why he was so cheap his response is that if Honda goes belly side up tomorrow it's no skin off him. He has ten other manufacturers he sells. He doesn't plan on taking advantage of price. So ends our search for a machine and the pioneer became our new toy.
