Hello,
I have a 2016 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 deluxe with a winch on the front. I'm trying to find a toy hauler now to haul it and trying to determine the best garage size for it. I'm wondering if an 11' garage would be too tight of a fit? What toy haulers are you all using?

Also, I just bought a 2017 F-350 6.7 4x4 crew cab SRW thinking I could tow about any size toy hauler. Now, I'm finding out that many of the 5th wheel toy haulers hitch pin weights are going to put my truck over it's payload capacity. Not opposed to selling my new truck and getting a dually, but I'd rather not.

Just trying to see what my options are for a 5th wheel toy hauler that will have a light enough "wet" hitch pin weight to keep me legal on the roads, and also fit my 1000-5. Any ideas?

I’m not in your boat yet but do have future toy hauler plans and have done a lot of research. I do own a standard fifth wheel and tow it with a Sierra 2500. Most people say to take gross trailer weight and multiply it by 20 to 25% to get a hitch weight. Using this method plus fuel and passengers etc, I’m over my payload weight on the door sticker. My truck doesn’t struggle with my fifth wheel at all. I don’t dry camp so don’t know what my truck would be with full water tanks too. So something to chew on.

Toy haulers are different just due to high pin weight. Have read having a toy in rear (nomo) lightens the pin some. I’ve read that will help keep the ride from not being as rough too but doesn’t change pin by a lot. Again no real life experience here.

Since you have your truck already if it’s newer it should list your payload. I believe Ford is one that has been listing payload but I could be wrong. With payload you can calculate TH hitch weight. Many sites out there to help.

For me I like the Grand Designs and the Momentum lines are dual wheel trucks. Read triple axle TH are more in line with dual wheel trucks

Yeah, I've done the math. Albeit, after buying the truck unfortunately. My payload on the sticker of my truck says 3594, but with a lot of aftermarket mods, is prob even less. I plan to weigh it this week.

I'm more or less looking for TH brand/model recommendations that have a GVWR under 16,000 lbs, but still have a garage that will fit my 1000-5. Still unsure on the minimum garage size to look for. Figured some on this forum may be in the same boat and have ideas on specific models of 5ers to look at.

Yes, an 11’ garage will fit your P1. Its tight but will fit. If u add a rear tire carrier, youll have to take it off to get the garage door closed.
I have a 38’ TH 5er and have hauled it all over the country with the tanks full and full cargo with no issues with my 15’ F350 6.7 PS SRW crew cab 8’bed. I did add air bags to help the ride a bit but its not necessary. my TH is a Keystone Carbon.

Most often, I would probably be under the numbers even with SxS, but don't want to do a bunch of math and be nervous if I'm loaded down on a boondocking trip. Have you done the CAT scales with yours all loaded down to see if your over the GCWR of your truck??
I did some time ago and had about 700 lb to spare but that was a while back. Can't keep doing all that math, it will mess with your head! It's not rocket science lol.
And if you learn that you can't drive like you just have your truck in your regular trailer and give yourself space and drive the right speeds you will be fine. I worked in transportation for Roush racing back in the day I'm heavy truck hauling big car haulers and whatnot. We never seem to have any issues with just a standard calculations. But the main thing was learning how to drive properly. That's why we always had zero incidents

I had a 235 hp outboard on an 18' boat rated for 175 hp and never died, because I was a responsible adult. I live and boated at 5000 ft which downrated that 235 to 184 hp IIRC. Load ratings have a built-in fudge factor allowing for idjits. Like Remmington said, it ain't rocket science, drive safely, carefully, leave yourself extra room to stop and don't fill the garage with lead bars.

That guy can tow really fast downhill with a tailwind though. Probably beat the paramedics to the scene of the crash by at least 20 minutes.

My only concern would be getting involved in an accident and having the insurance company deny the claim if they somehow managed to find out you were exceeding the load rating, especially if someone else was injured or killed.

Exactly! The liability of either insurance claims denied or civil court losses due to injuring someone else is why I would ideally like to stay under the numbers even though I know it "can" handle more payload than that.

The only way that would happen is if u were DOT. they always investigate for DOT.
or if u were to kill someone and goes to court. Or If you Definitely looked like Jed Clampet going down the road when it happened And the officer wants to push the issue, its alot of work to do
Get ready for an oooooo moment lol my Cousin thats a sargent on the sheriffs dept and is a accident reconstruction specialist filled me in on this. He pulls an RV the same way and told me not to sweat it.
the DOT $hit I already knew Lol.

Like i said, If ya’ll that worried about it, why ask the question in the first place? my suggestion again is to get u a TH without slides to get you in that dam near 1/2 load rating you want. Its that simple!
might not have the amenity's you want and the ole lady might complain! but it will certainly take the pucker factor out of the equation you so desire. ;) 🥳
