I will never own another dodge diesel. Nothing but problems. My fords have been the least amount of problems. My gmc has some, but the fuel mileage was a big difference in the older models. I think Ford has the fuel mileage figured out on the new 17 models. Not sure your wanting a truck that new.

I have a 2007.5 Dodge 6.7 and has not given a minutes trouble , it has been deleted and programmed. Tows my voltage 3805 toyhauler with no trouble at all and gets 12mpg doing it. It has been a work horse since day one , hauling a 650lgp dozer and other farm equipment. Deleting all the crap makes all the difference in the world, empty before the delete only got 14mpg max, once deleted I have see 20mpg plus if driven right.

That’s what I’ve gathered you just about HAVE to delete them for them to run RIGHT. Most people tell me if you work them they run better longer, which is good to hear because it’s gonna be the tow donkey, not a daily driver mall cruiser. Going to mod/tune it for towing.

I’d like to stay with 4 tires and the reduced width and tire cost that comes with but to get a Ford to carry a TQ345 it’s a dually for hitch rating, while the RAM will (just) do it with SRW.

Def NOT looking at a 17’ there’s $25k of additional sticker over a good 12’-14’, nice trucks though!

I agree with you @JACKAL but the Super C is a little out of my $ range. I' going to try and get by with this for a few years.

I have a Thor "Tahoe" 26 ft toy hauler, bumper pull. My new 2017 P1000-3eps fits with 4 inches on each side and 3 inches on top. I did have to remove the upper bunk (has 2) that go up and down electrically. Now the lower bunk gives me 6 inches clearance in height and length could be 2 ft longer with no issues. The reason I recommend Thor is their aluminum body frame, aluminum skinned body sides and roof with sandwiched styrofoam. The only part that can get wet is the 1 inch plywood floor. Other campers we have owned rotted from the bottom up. (wet wood). That can't happen here. They also make 5th wheel models. Our bumper pull has generator, a/c,fuel station, bathroom with shower, heater etc. The kitchen is well laid out with sink, water heater, oven/stove big refrigerator, and the best for us in the desert... a 100 gallon water tank. Suggest you look at these before you buy a headache. And best thing, my 2017 Silverado shortbed Duramax crewcab tows it with ease and forces you to look back and be sure the trailer is still there.

Envious .... if that’s a T31, looked at one Saturday. Intrigued by the T32 but cannot find one close by to lay eyes on.

Yes it’s a t31. We love the floor plan. Drove 500 miles one way to get it.

Or you could save some cash and go with an 01 to 03 7.3. Or for well under 10k a 6.0 and spend another couple grand to bulletproof it and the money you save will pay for the extra cost of 6 tires.

Problem with 7.3 is rated tow capacity vs sticker weights, nowhere near enough for a TQ345 on paper. I checked to cover myself, insurance won’t cover me even if scale weight is less, because all they have after a crash is stickers.

I’d go with a 7.3 in a split second and build it up before a 6.0-6.4. The 01’ F-350 SRW is rated about the same or less than my 14’ 1500 tow wise and about the same for load carrying. We both know 7.3 will do far more but that’s what’s on paper. The 350DRW still isn’t rated enough and the F-450s are a rare bird if not completely destroyed.

03’ 7.3 F-350 SRW 4x4 Crew LongBed vs 14’ 1500 5.3 4x4 Crew 5’8” MaxTow

Think bigger. Google around and see what it takes in your state to convert a class 7/8 into an RV.
Go on commercial truck trader and see what some of these used trucks are worth.

Have to dig around some more, a quick commercial truck trader search shows no class 5,6,7,8 7.3 liter within 500miles of me.

12’ or newer F-350 DRW is plenty that’s the first year of the 6.7 with a high enough rating.

I’ve got plenty of time to figure out which truck to go with and find one.

Are you stuck on Ford? Or the 7.3?
F650/F750 were readily available with a 5.9 cummins and an alison auto.

The class 5-8 trucks will all come with larger than 7.3 l engines. A freightliner FL60 or M2 with a Cummins ISC would be sweeetttt

Keep looking. I have a good friend who has a FL60 that he pulls a gooseneck with a truck camper and his diesel Land Cruiser on it. It started as a box truck and he built a flat bed for it. If I recall correctly, he has less than $15k on it.

Notice I didn’t say a Sport Chassis ....

Anything but GM!

So 5.9, 7.3, 6.7 are all on table

If I can not take the cab off to bulletproof I’d prefer that.

Gotta have @4000lb payload and @16k tow rating.

RAM seems to have higher ratings over the years, for the same year model.

I need hardcore dependability, I hate constantly repairing something.

The crew cabs are all $45 plus, if I could find a 16’ flatbed I could carry the Pioneer in front of the FifthWheel instead of inside...

I haven’t advertised it yet, but I have a truck & trailer package for sale.
2005 GMC C4500 145k mi. and a 2014 Cyclone 4000HD toyhauler. just don’t use it enough anymore. Only use it 3-4 times a year since the camper was new.
$80k for both. $52k camper only.
