Rincon/Big Red/P700 have same clutch setup, but use a converter to drive it instead. Same tech just a different way of getting power from the crank to the transmission.
On the topic of Polaris, we just rebuilt an entire 800 crew engine. Called a dealer in Columbus to ask their opinion on the noise it was making. They immediately knew what it was, cam wiped a lobe and took out a rod bearing. Said every 800 will do it, just a matter of time. Completely junk accoriding to him, said Polaris won't do a thing about it either. This one only had 700 miles on it, they claim it's because of not using Polaris oil filters.
I don't understand the need for a torque converter with a clutch...
Did I get off topic?lol

On a normal Honda atv, a centrifugal clutch is attached to the crank and freewheels until the shoes are spun out enough to enage the drum and drive the transmission. On the converter trans the converter does the work of the centrifugal clutch. Since you can't shift gears automatically with a cetrifugal engaged @ full power, honda used a converter. But since technology has brought us the dual clutch they've found a better alternative to an automatic.
The converter trans is a simplified version of an automotive automatic. Instead of a seperate fluid supply it uses engine oil. This is what usually leads to the problems in that trans. People don't change the oil and dirty burnt oil doesn't do its job.

My nephew rebuilt his 800 crew just last August.

Did he notice any connectors on the throttle body that were metled. This was the third polaris sxs we've traded for that had melted connectors. Including the injectors, and throttle position sensor.

How I understand it is he had to take the whole engine out and wrenched all night to have it ready the next day for a family ride.
I will ask him details next time I see him.

We originally thought ours was a clutch issue. Ended up tearing into the bottom end and finding one cam lobe wipedal almost clean, all 4 lifters worn out and one big end rod bearing gone. All the crank and cam bearings were trashed as well as the oil pump. The only internal parts we could salvage were the rockers, pushrods, and the balancer.

I'd be curious to know how many miles he got out of the engine before it needed to be rebuilt.

According to the guy we called, it could happen @ any time. Our low mileage unit was common.
