UPDATED TO 1000X4 in 2020 - Most all parts were moved over or replaced with the same part to fit 4 seater.

Talon 1000X build with parts info and ride pics.

Started offroading in the late 90s when Jeeps were the main off road vehicle. I spent many years wheeling and building them. As SXSs became popular and family commitments limiting my ability to ride I looked to switch to SXS. I liked that they were smaller, easier to haul, and could haul multiple with out needing large truck and trailer. Many friends started switching to RZRs and then Can Ams. So I started looking but didn't like the belt drives, how they engaged and ease of slipping belt. Belts just didn't seem to fit with the low speed crawling of obstacles we were used to. It became evident that Honda was the way to go. Since they did not have sport, I went with a cheap P500 to get me buy until they released. While I love and still have the P500, I jumped on the Talon as soon as I could. Here is my build and parts used.

Genuine Honda accessories - Nerf bars, Front bumper (see light bar post below for pics of from bumper)

https://amzn.to/2IjY1Th

Honda nerf bars installed very easy. It was very nice that Honda has markings on where to cut plastic where nerf bar mounts. I used a utility knife and heated blade with a propane torch. Then used file to smooth out.

Infinity 4100msb Sound bar - Great sounding unit. Plan to add a subwoofer if you like bass, not a lot out of the unit. I had to modify to use different roll bar clamps to that it mount higher and more out of the way.

Storage

- Contico storage locker and Cooler from Walmart

Container fits great but isnt the sturdiest. Great for $18. Also found a cooler that fits and conceals well inside storage box. Holds 30+cans. Still need to find a good way to mount storage box. Less than $20 at walmart, but here is Amazon link https://amzn.to/2MMpUZZ

Lighting
Stock lights actually do very well. Did some night riding at wildcat and didnt have much problems seeing. I am thinking that this 12" on the bumper will suffice. If not I will add a larger one overhead.

I am very impressed with the Switch pros wiring system. I was hesitant due to the price, but it was well worth it in the end. I would highly recommend for anyone planning on running 4 or more accessories or want the expansion capability.

The switch pros is so simple and easy to use. No relays, fuses, or fuse blocks. It is so versatile. With the switch pros Bluetooth app you can customize the amp ratings per switch, change between ignition and battery controlled, choose and infinitely adjustable colors on switches and so much more.

Copying the idea of another Talon owner on here, I mounted unit in the rear where you access the air filter. There was just enough room to mount it all up nicely and was close to battery. The 8 position terminal made for a clean installation and made it easy to add accessories. Used a 4 position terminal to hook up all the grounds and then grounded to battery. One communication cable was run up to the console where the switches are mounted.

Here is links to the switchpro and other materials I used.

Thanks, Just for Fun was great to work with. Dealt with owner. Easy transaction, mostly done thru email. Paperwork was ready when I got there, Gave 15% off accessories and threw in a hat and t-shirt. There was some damage on the roof, really nothing much, but as soon as I looked at it and felt it, he jumped to offer to swap the roof off of the 1000R that was sitting there. Enjoyable to talk with and didnt rush the transaction. Can't complain.
Hated not buying from local dealer, but they are not a powerhouse and I would still be waiting another month for a red X to come in.

Cleaned up and ran TYT 8600 Radio. I set it up to clamp to the roll cage overhead. The Talon has a flag mount on the rear cage. I drilled out hole larger for antenna, painted, and installed antenna. To run cable, I loosened the fender, filed it to make room for wiring to go thru.

Here is what I used and how I ran cable.

A couple of questions plz.
A few folks have complained of excessive cab heat. I know they are all warm, but some claim the talon is uncomfortable. Do you have a opinion on this?

I see you road witha xyz, did you notice a big difference in these machines capabilities? Thanks

I haven't noticed any heat but have only put 50 miles on and one trail ride. I will know better after takeover. Only comments about heat I have seen was from the RZR life guys video, haven't heard anyone else complain.

Not sure where you seen about riding with a YXZ. Havent rode with one yet, but the guy with the Can am in my pics just got one and will be riding with me at takeover as well.

I’m curious what the best way will be to mount light bars with the SATV flip up windshield.

I bought the SATV half windshield and am considering getting the flip-up instead and selling the half. I’m guessing it’ll have to be done similarly to the way the OEM Honda branded bar mounts through the roof.
