I hear ya on the retirement income. I’m retired and my wife has one more year. I’m saving my pennies, haha, if we had any. If I get a little I put it away, then again I’ve had the money twice already for the skid plate and there has been something come up to take it. Haha. I want to get the S P and start on the locker. Haha. Never know, I might win the lottery. Haha.

You sure you want to do the aluminum skid plat Cap....

I don’t like the plastic one.
But it’s superior to the aluminum, won’t dig into rocks like aluminum does, and when gravel gets on top of the aluminum one bouncing around, the noise is.....:eek::eek:

I don’t like the plastic one. I thought I was going to just make my own but I can’t lay under the bike to do that. Getting too old and sore for that. Haha.

UHMW is a self-lubricating, highly durable material with ultra-impact resistance that makes perfect sense for off-road protection—it easily slides over anything the trail sends your way.

Reading about the aluminum one, it’s aircraft aluminium, supposed to be better impact protection. Now I’m wondering how many guys have changed their skid plates. And how it’s worked out. Hummmm. Because that is as much as the locker. Now I’ll have to look into it more. If I knew how to start a new trend I would. Haha Thanks Monte. But still might. Haha

Have the Thick aluminum ricochet full slids and rock rock sliders, and never caught against stuff in the real riding world. Might show a difference on a tabletop friction test, but doubt the difference makes up for the durability. I ride with with some big rock hits, and with the curved head bolts and recessed washers just keep sliding with confidence. Just my 2 cents on marketing hype, suction in the mud seems more of a issue with any type of material and these have maintenance holes But what do I know, my other rig is a Polaris ACE, LOL.

Haha, that’s funny about the Ace. Is you skid a Honda accessory or aftermarket. They use the same bolts and washers on the Honda one. So that’s one for one against. Wonder what Trigger has. Haha. I just thought it would be stronger than the plastic one. Thanks

After receiving and seeing the quality of the Ricochet skids product, I sent him a template and for $25 got some custom pieces for the front wheel well after seeing some stick/branch penetrations to the cab. Some posts on those near miss injuries. Thinking legs are more important than the rig undercarriage.
Heres the Ricochet site, Don Gibbs ( [email protected] )was good to talk to for questions Honda Pioneer 500

Found the thread on near miss penetrations. Be safe all woods riders. P1000 - What are the odds? Not do diss any product, but just prefer metal. Concaved recessed aluminum washers with higher grade rated bolts supplied with Ricochet. Guess its all about personal preference. @trigger got the anodized ones, and then modded some wrap around front well protection. Maybe he will chime in.

Yes, trigger and I spoke to Don Gibbs directly. It is stout stuff. You could likely just get some material cut locally, anything better than the OEM thin plastic wheel well.

I’ll have to check the price difference between yours and Honda’s by the time it gets here. I think the Honda one is around $500. Canadian. And yeah I can handle the wheel well. Thanks.

Yeah they sent those to me too when I bought the rock sliders, Don's a good guy. I didn't end up using them though as I made my own out of diamond plate. As for skid plates, I went with the UPI brand that are plastic. They're like 3 times as thick as the stock skid. After market skids of either variety is money well spent. ;)

If you ever get a chance to ride with somebody that has aluminum skids, I recommend it, dragging over rocks is like fingernails on a chalk board and when gravel gets on top of them lol, it’s noisy....
