Just thinking, I put Never Seize on the bolts when I put them back in. I use it a lot.

Must be a regional thing... I rustproof the inside of my frame rails and anywhere rust might show its ugly head, and I use Never Seize on some bolts also. Gotta try to make this machine last many years!

Yup. My old FJ40 rusted to death. I learned my lesson long ago. Damn salt air. I’ll spray it down again before I take it out in spring. Looks ok.

Dont buy into the whole "aluminum wont slide over rocks, is weaker, noisier, causes global warming" wives tales. My skid has been beaten on regular basis for 3yrs now and is still flat as a board. @Tigermark did his best to destroy it going down Widowmaker few months ago. Took this picture that evening after we got back. Ask him if we were hard on it lol.

Monte, did you watch Oak Island last night. I thought it was interesting. I won’t say anything incase you didn’t see it yet.
Caper
Nope, I don’t watch it regularly, I catch up on it on Netflix occasionally......

Just to be clear, I didn’t say that aluminum won’t slide over rocks, it does, but it’s noisier and isn’t self lubricating like the UHMW is and it doesn’t have memory like UHMW does. And if you ever ride gravel roads, it will get on top of them and it is in fact noisy, lol. There’s at least a half dozen threads here on skids and if you research them you’ll see that the lions share of members go with UHMW, instead of anecdotals. Don’t think anybody blamed global warming on aluminum skids either.:D:D

Lol. All good here Monte. I will do research before I buy. And I do appreciate everything you said. You and Trigger are UHMW and Mudder and Delton are Aluminum. I’ll go check out the trends, for sure. Up here it’s a lot of money. So I want to get it right. Thanks again everyone.

Curious Monte, I caught the front corner on a stump and it pulled away from the frame a little bit. The. Aluminum one I thought if that happened I could take out a bolt , put a piece of wood between and bend it back. I can’t do that with the stock one. Does the memory fix that.

I looked and researched and priced, even put the aluminum Rocksliders on before I decided on skids. It was ultimately seeing how my factory ones held up at the Takeover that made me decide on uhmw. Bent one corner back pretty good, took it off and heated it, bent it right back where it was. You can dent a pop can, pretty hard to dent a water bottle. ;)

You’re talking about that plastic stock skid (I say that tongue in cheek) right? The UHMW won’t do that to begin with.

What is that....like 1/3 the price of UHMWhatever? For that, I'll take pop cans.

Honestly, i don't drag much on the 500. If it had real tires, prob never touch until i started do some real rock crawling?
Well you asked so I just threw it out there for you. In case you didn’t notice, that one is thinner and doesn’t cover nearly as much as the UHMW skids I installed do. But if you don’t drag much perhaps you’re good with the OEM’s for the duration. :) And those are about half the cost of good UHMW.
