use Kerosene. Gasoline would work, but I think it would eventually kill the adhesive and ruin the filter. Like Monte said, keep an eye on it. They are reusable, but they don't last forever. You don't want to wring it out hard by twisting it. You can gently squeeze out the kerosene, and maybe use clean towels to get more out. Let it dry overnight, and oil the crap out of it with air filter oil. I'm using UNI oil now, but there are many kinds that will work just as well.The guy who briefed me on my P5 at the dealer told me to wash the foam element in gasoline and re-oil and reuse it.
Better to replace?

I bought an extra filter, so I can always have a clean one oiled and ready to go, on the shelf.
They are only like $15, and my 700XX uses the same filter. So I figured it would be nice to have an extra to use with either machine.
