So far Colorado has refused to pass a bill that would allow us to license these. I believe they are working on one again. Where I mostly ride we can now go into the town of Silverton, Colorado and Lake City, Colorado which is accessible by two passes. They are nice rides with many side trips. But if you don't want to return by the same route from Lake City you have 4 miles of state highway to ride on and you can get busted on these 4 miles. We just did the 4 miles last weekend and were okay and the local police seem to look the other way. But the state patrol is not that forgiving. I have friends in New Mexico who have licensed their S x S in Arizona using a friends address and so far have gotten away with that except you will buy the Colorado off road sticker if you are from another state. The fine is pretty ugly. Sticker is $25.50 and does fund a lot of trail work.
I wish we had a more sensible law regarding these units. Of course if you are ever in a confrontation with a normal vehicle they might as well send a sponge to clean up whats left.
