Nice looking rig. Hope the dealer didn't bend you over the fence too bad on the 500... she was purdy too.
What happened? Is your rim cracked?
Riding a rocky trail at Mines and Meadows. Must have bumped a rock just right. Didn't even feel it happen. Got to the top of the hill and something felt wrong. Tried to get the tire back on the bead by winching the front end up using a tree. Wouldn't work, so I drove it like that back to the campsite. Got it home, cleaned all the mud out, soaked it with armor all and put air in and was able to get it popped back on. Rim got some dents, but really not bad at all considering how far I had to ride it like that. Tire seems ok too.... didn't have the best luck this weekend..Same question
Found that out the hard way the other day with my 700. Hit a rock just right with the front driver wheel and cut a star shaped hole in the side wall of which I could stick my thumb into the center off. I pulled the wheel and with a breaking bar/spoon I attempted to take the tire off with no luck. Ended up going to town and buying a 6"x6" boot and taking it to the only open shade tree tire shop in town on a Sunday. Has me planing on a spare now.Riding a rocky trail at Mines and Meadows. Yeah, the tires on the 700's are much better than what comes on the 500. But, they are not very tough. My friend had lots of plugs in his original tires before he replaced them. He rides through switch grass, and the switch grass actually punctured his tires multiple times.Found that out the hard way the other day with my 700. Comparing treads, I agree that the stock 700' look better than the stock 500's, but man, those sidewalks. I couldn't get over the thickness (or should I say thinness) of them, 1/8" I'm guessing. I bought an inner tube when I bought the boot, but when the tire guy attempted to install it, it wouldn't fit, this despite the fact that the size stated on the tube matched the tire size. So far it's held without the use of the tube though. I'm glad you didn't have any serious damage. Is this HF bead breaker portable, like something you'd carry on the sxs with you?Yeah, the tires on the 700's are much better than what comes on the 500. But, they are not very tough. It's extremely hard to break the bead to remove a tire. A few years ago we tried driving a truck over the tire and even that wouldn't break the bead. It can be done with a large hammer, but unless you're good at it you could hit the rim and damage it. A friend of mine has a bead breaker like the ones at harbor freight and it works perfectly.
Sorry about the hole in your tire. That's a bummer.
No, the bead breaker isn't portable. But as a garage tool, it will pay for itself after a few tire changes.Comparing treads, I agree that the stock 700' look better than the stock 500's, but man, those sidewalks.
