I have a 2018 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 LE and my air filter is trashed after every 100 miles. I’ve checked all the connections to the air filter and none of them are loose. I’ve read everything that I can find on this issue and I’m trying to determine the best route. I really don’t want to put on a snorkel. Does anyone know if it would be possible to put a Uni Foam Pod filter directly on the end of the intake under the hood and then place a filter skin over the Uni Pod filter?

Can you post a picture of your filter?

I just put a new filter on 3 weeks ago because it was completely full of dust and mud all the way through and that was after about 400-500 miles. It went in for service yesterday and I attached a picture of what it looked like since I put the new one on 3 weeks ago. The service center confirmed that all the connections to the air filter were good and the gasket was installed correctly. I’m on very dusty trails as well as going through water and mud. The service center recommended that I see if anyone is making a particle separator for it. I searched and called everywhere and they don’t exist for this machine yet. I saw that some people recommend using filter skin over the intake and others have installed a snorkel with a foam pod filter on it. I’m wondering if the skin is the best route or if I could skip the snorkel and put a foam pod filter directly on the intake. Or even the pod filter with the skin over that.

I’m actually not going through water that deep. I think the dust on the filter turns to mud just from water spraying up and pressure washing.

Is the prefilter just as bad, or is there some differences.? I would worry about how much of the dust in getting into the engine.

I don’t have my machine with me right now to look, but I don’t recall seeing a prefilter. I think Honda got rid of it between the 2017 and 2018 models.

You’re right, there is a sub air cleaner under the hood. I’ll have to look at it and check my service paperwork to see if they checked it. They didn’t say anything about it verbally.

Post #11 looks like you could do something like some do our Talons. This is in addition to the stock pleated air filter. Do whatever it takes to keep your intake drawing clean air (duh).

Your clamps may be tight but I think I would be looking for a hole in the hose if you are not going in that deep of water.

I have the Uni prefilter under the hood. Don't think i have changed my main filter more than once with 2000 miles. I live in Central Texas.
I can look up some pictures and parts that i used if you would like. This could also help you test the air intake system. If after the prefilter is installed and the main still get that dirty, You have air being sucked in some where else.

Heres screen shots of the parts i used.
If you want to go the Gates hose route you need a total of 3 clamps and 1 coupling pipe. I had this setup first an had no problems with it other than i wanted a little cleaner look.
I reconfigured mine and used 2 of the silicone 90° elbows and a couple lengths of aluminum tubing to dress it up a little. I am still looking for a picture of the latest setup.Make sure these are all correct size before you order. Looks like the screen shots may not be all same sizes.

I already have the Gates setup, using the factory coarse foam in the end of it, stuck up under the windshield. I was hoping to replace the foam with a Uni filter that would fit the Gates hose. I assume the metal piece connects the Gates to the Uni and uses the clamps. Not sure of your configuration using the 2 90* pieces. What location did the Uni end up being at under the hood? Do you have any pics of your setup?

Couple things I’d do. First take prefilter out and put hand over intake while running, it should die pretty quickly. That’ll help check for a leak in system. You should also check clamps along the path.
Also check the inside of the tube under passenger floorboard for water or residual water. This tube can hold a gallon of water.
You’re machine has the updated intake so it should be at a minimum but could happen. You’re filter should not be wet
