I'm thinking about chopping cage on 1000-5 deluxe. Anyone regret it? Just looking at advantage and disadvantages.

Being super novice to metal working, is it as simple as cut out 3" of steel in the middle of each down tube and re-weld back together? Sorry for the novice question, but I think mine could benefit for a cage chop

I took 3" out of the back and sleeved it 29" with 1.625 OD .144" tube.

I took 3" out of the middle and also sleeved it. This was cut more on the inside of the top to save the roof gusset and more on the outside of the bottom to keep the vbar intact

I then cut about 2.75" off the front. The front is sleeved 4" with 1.625" tube. You can see the plug welds I added after welding the ends.

Not saying this is the best way or the right way but it's what I did and I'm satisfied with it.

Thanks for the pictures and description looks a little more involved than what I was thinking. I think I might run to one of the local shops, and see what they think.

Do you happen to have any pictures of how you did that progressive chop? I like the idea of the back getting lower than the front.

Thanks man, Did you add any additional tubing sleeve or simply cut and re-weld?

Thank you for the detailed pictures, I've been looking to do this also. It looks like you're running the SuperATV windshield. Did you have to do any modifications to the windshield to keep it functioning?

I am ready to chop mine also.
I am going with 4" in the front to a 5" in the back like shown above.

I would like to keep the Super ATV flip up windshield, I see some have cut them down, does anyone have pictures of that or some comments on what they did?

I cut about 1" off my SuperATV windshield and notched it to clean my Honda roof clamps.

The windshield fits a lot tighter to the front of the roll cage now

Awesome! Thanks for the pics and info! I've got a friend who's chopped several roofs so now that I've got a windshield plan, I may check with him on chopping mine because it looks a whole lot better.

I did mine lower in the back. I didn't cut the front down. Just the middle and removed the C-pillar. I wanted to be able to use the factory windshield.
