I haven't received anything from Honda indicating that my machine, 16 pioneer 1000-5 deluxe, should have the clutch updated. I haven't had any trouble with the clutch yet, but was wondering if I should be contacting my dealer about the update even though I haven't received anything from Honda. What exactly does the update entail? Is it a worthwhile update? Opinions appreciated......

I’m pretty sure all of the older models are part of the fix. I’d contact your dealer and get on the waitlist for the clutch and heat fixes.

All are covered. Letters are being sent out strategically. Over time. Everyone will get a letter if your address is correct with Honda.
Your dealer can pull the info. No where does it say a letter is needed. It only says they are being mailed out.
We have the letter for print if you need anyways. Lol.

Just purchased a2017 P1000-3eps. Has 22 miles. Called dealer, they will do heat and clutch update, but must take to shop to verify problems? With 22 miles? Service manager says Honda will not provide update until shop verifies exact parts needed. What a crock! It damn well better not be bad with 22 miles in my backyard. Anyway, will drag down there tomorrow and get inspection done. Want this to be like my 1993 TRX300FW quad. Still going strong and reliable to a fault.

The dealer probably wants to check and see if your machine came with those parts already built into it. Halfway through 2017 Honda started manufacturing these with the updates.

My dealer called today, asked miles and hours on machine, said he was ordering parts for clutch update and would call me during the winter to do it.

2016 P1k5D bought in April, just turned 1000 miles last ride......no problems with it except 1 flat tire.
I like this rig!!!
You will need the full gamut, they will probably replace both clutches and clutch cover for sure. I have ruined two stock front tires and busted an 8 ply EFX, that I had vulcanized with no issues, so far.

My tire was the l/r stock tire and I knew it was low on air....punched a hole in tire between rock in trail and rim in center of tread (@45-50 mph!), 1 plug and it has gone approx. 250 miles since.

The stock tires had 2 inch voids in the busted side walls with 15 PSI.

They need a serial number to order the parts Yes, but not for the reason they provided. Honda won't let you order these or the heat kit willy nilly. They need the VIN to make sure their not hogging parts.

No 2017 model has the clutch update and for the heat kit there are 2 parts numbers: 1 for 2016 models and another for for 2017 models. The only mid year update is the updated pre-filter housing.

You'll very rarely get both clutches damaged. The 2,4,6 clutch is never been at all damaged on any I've worked on. It's never under any pressure, you'll never slip that clutch.

The first clutch up date, Honda replaced both? Were just drawing straws?

There's only 1 clutch update, not sure what your referring to as the 1st clutch update. The clutch that operates 2,4,6 gears is impossible to slip because you'll never be going slow enough in 2nd to put the unit under the conditions that has caused the clutch issues.

Anytime someone has had a clutch replaced its most likely the outside 1,3,5,R clutch. Unless they've been authorized to do both for whatever reason.

Guess it was authorized because Honda did it. I really think Honda has the real fix this time, rode mine 60 miles last week end, hauled wood, rock crawled and trail rode. And no change in clutch performance. Since the upgrade. It's so smooth on take off, even my wife noticed. And she doesn't even notice when I have a brand new truck sitting in the garage.
