took the restrictive air intake out and replace it with a smooth flowing 3” aluminum tube. Mandrel bent tube was $18.99, silicone straight coupler $6.99, 2 foot straight tube (only needed 5”) $16.99, K&N filter $69.00 you can buy a cheaper filter. Clean install, the 90 just touches the inner fender. All the tube was bought at siliconeintakes.com, fast shipping. Though it looks "better" it's actually not.

Lots of time and money have gone into that "ant farm" to ensure the proper resonance and propre litigation of shutoff back pressure return timings thus creating a slight air charge over free flowing intakes.

Your thingy could actually provide less proformance than the "ant farm".

Though this will be completely unnoticeable to 99.99% of us... So carry on.

The Talon engine can only burn so much air making the intake capable of flowing more will not matter. To need more flow would require engine modification such as turbo. The important issue is that moving the intake up high will get it in cleaner air and not fill up the stock air filter so fast.

It is interesting that Honda only recommends the S&B particle filter for aftermarket filters. To recommend this (S&B) Honda had to have it engine design & test engineers OK the S&B Particle filter based on airflow before they would recommend the product. HondaSXS is correct about the factory specification regarding managed airflow. In Honda's mind (engineering) Ant Farm is #1 and S&B is #2 for particle filters.

I have a setup similar to OP's on my race car except I'm running a bigger filter and an outerwear pre-filter over it. I've been thinking about pulling the stock filter in the air box and just running the K&N to see if there are any gains. I don't recommend everyone doing this but in the name of performance I'm trying it on my car next outing at the track.
