I am installing 2 mictuning switches. One for the winch and the other for the lights. Where on the dash is the best place and how did you cut out. I don't want to mess it up and end up with a hole in the dash :). Thx

If you take off the front hood and look at the backside of the dash, you will see imprints for cutout areas for rocker switches.

Cutting them is not hard. Getting them straight is a PITA.

You can find a templet in some of the honda accessory instructions. Print and use that.

Or. Order a switch panel if you your future holds more switches.

Used the OEM cutout lines for horn and rear light, plus a voltmeter/usb and battery charger socket. Wiggling a box cutter gave cleaner cutouts than an oscillating tool. I could see the lines from the front in the glare of a light.

Nope, photo misleading. Those are sloppy rough cuts from first trying an oscillating blade, switched to utility knife thereafter. You have a good eye. LOL

Is there any advantage/disadvantage in what wire you install your switch for accessory lights?

On my 700. I did tap one of the headlight wires. This allowed the switch backlights to come on only when headlights were on. I liked it and it worked as designed.

But for the 1000. I just wired to key-on acc wire.
And my second 1000. I just wired to the AUX on switch.

Really just dont tap a wire that is of importance. Let's say if something happened to that connection and you shorted it out. Could you do without that circut for a while.
Headlights, maybe. Ignition, No.

Just found out the brake pedal interlock switch is on the headlight fuse, if blown, no starter engagement. Thought I had a bad interlock switch, learned out the hard way on other ride.

Even if the unit is in neutral?

It was on another machine that required the brake pedal depressed in any gear, but for the P500 it is also on the headlight fuse. Good to know in advance.

Ok, I understand about taking care to tap a non essential system. I was wondering if there was any advantages or disadvantages as to what side of the accessory to install the switch, in the hot side or ground side.
