Do I need to remove the steering box, or should I start by removing the inner tie rods, and inspecting?

I may have missed it if it was covered earlier..... have you checked the knuckle to see if it's bent, specifically where the tie rod attaches

Left inner steering arm bent at the ball (se pic)

View attachment 75373

This member had a hard hit at speed, damaging several components of his steering rack. He replaced.

My situation was different: pinched and stressed at full steering lock with force applied to steering wheel. Is this a pic of the inner tie rod? Could this be my issue?

Go here:

Order the CONN TUBE band and pull the boot to inspect.
The CONN TUBE band will allow you to reassemble the boot with out a full disassembly.
(band size is the same for the P500)

Retracted the boot, the shaft is fine. That rear upper a-arm mount is bent more than first noticed.

Am I correct in thinking that it needs to be beaten back into alignment, then welded?

Are you talking about the area circled? It looks like it's torn loose a bit, but yah.....smack it straight with a hammer and weld it.

Yes, that's right. Do you feel like this would cause my toe-out issue?
It could, it's hard to see how far it's bent from the pic. I would suggest measuring from the A arm to a point on each side to get a real picture...... example, measure from the ball joint to the center of the rear wheel on both sides and compare

Try measuring from left to right.
The back side of the front mount and the front side of the back mount are clear side to side.
The measurements should be the same.

You could jack up the front end, drop the upper arm frame bolts (on the side that you think is wonky) and the holes should line up front to back.
Make sure they line up before you start welding.

Beats me, but increasingly looking like a steering rack issue, I guess.

Trying to knock out the easier, more accessible stuff first, but even that is taking forever. Special thanks to KyGal for her sharp eyes thus far.

Trying to get a buddy to do the alignment 'persuasion' and welding...
