Buy one of these cables and use CHIRP... it makes it easy.

There are cheaper cables but this is the one I bought and I know it works.

I know this is an older tread but this is what I put on mine and it works great. With the external speaker it's loud and works with my buddies handhelds. See photos and the guy to contact on Facebook. This setup is a little pricey around $250 from the handhelds everyone is talking about on here but it's waterproof and hold up really well.

I’ve had mine up there for a few months now. It’s holding on pretty decent. I bent it the first trip out but haven’t had an issue since. @my99svt has a 3 seat and his is mounted a little different and protected better.

I just made a mount for my antenna today. I can't have anything rigidly mounted sticking up higher than the roof (low hanging trees have been know to slide over my roof) and I had an extra mag mount antenna kicking around. I tried it after the install and got good reports from the boys on a repeater that is 14 miles from my house. I'm just using a Baofeng bf-f9 hand held. This set up seems to as good as the same radio in my truck with a mag mount antenna on it.
