It's important to compare it with another one. The owner's manual may have the stock shock settings. From there you can go softer.

The Eibach spring set will fix the early Talon R. It is so soft that you have to connect the sway bar. It overcomes the stock stiff damping.

The non threaded bodies on the Showa shocks is a real head scratcher. I get that Honda was having supply issues with Fox but it's like they didn't even try to come up with anything similar and just went with the cheapest option. Pretty sad...

For around $2700 you can get a set of Elka S3's that are lightyears ahead of the junk that comes on our buggies from Honda.

For 2 or 4?

the shock shops should be able to whittle a threaded shock body to go onto the showas to get the ride height adjustment and then the basic revalve, springs - gonna be a big market for all the Showa non-threaded bodies rolling around out there to get upgraded

4, S3's are $1325 a pair, S4's are about $500 more, S5's are a lot more. I quoted the S3's because this is most likely all the trail rider would ever need.

Looks like Honda shafted their customers again. These are the 2025 base model KRX Showa shocks. I guess Kawasaki likes their customers more than Honda does and didn't put the cheapest shock Showa makes on their cars......

KRX 2025 Showa frt shock

KRX 2025 Showa shock

True dual rates.... Check
Threaded bodies.... Check
Crossover rings.... Check
Schrader valves.... Check

Just sayin

I bet having to pay to have all that done to a set of Showa shocks puts you well in the money range of Elka's.

Edit: Based on what I see in the pictures above, a threaded collar and some crossover/spring adjusters should be easy to come up with if Showa sells the parts.

Odd, I have had my Talon 1000X-4 with Showa's for nearly 7 weeks now and find it rides just fine. Maybe you have the Hi / Lo speed compression not adjusted correctly, I didn't have to mess with mine at all, it rides fine at 15-20 mph on rocky trails in East TN.

I thought of that too, just in case the book has it backwards, I adjusted everything to the middle, and then what should be full 'hard'. It makes almost no appreciable difference in ride- 4 to 15 mph over very rocky or even relatively smooth trails. It handles very small stuff ok, but if it's more than about 2-3" rocks or bumps, it beats the hell out of us, and when, particularly the rear drops off an edge of say more than 6" at anything above a crawl, it essentially knocks the wind out of us. It's brutal.

I may have posted this here already, but I talked to an 2024 R model owner out on the trail with the same shocks, and he said his rides really good. I'm starting to wonder if they just put the same dampers on all three models with a spring change to account for the added weight of the X4, and different geometry of the R model. Honda doesn't sell the component parts of the strut, so I can't tell from the parts list what's different between them. The added weight and wheelbase of the X4 would definitely improve ride quality.

I hate to hear that. I did remove my rear sway bar before I even had 10 miles on it, first machine I've done that to. Though I do get some body roll, it seems to make up for it in low speed articulation, which was my intention to try. So far I'm happy with that. Again most of my experiences have been with the 79" wheelbase P1K5D, and this 4 seat Talon 1000X-4 at 113" comparison wise rides like a dream because of that added length. I've got Stage 4 front and Stage 5 Elkas rear on my 24 P1K5D and it's as good as it gets from that wheelbase, and pretty happy with how it works for my use. Once I've worn down the Showa suspension in this Talon I will put Stage 5 Elkas on it front and rear probably within 2 years.

Shocks on the R are bigger / longer stroke than the X.

Sooo much $. Ya, swaybars disconnected- virtually no ride change at all. Absolutely no body roll, but noticed better articulation in the front going over the 'crawly stuff'

Like I said compare it with another one. Your dealer should contact the Honda tech line and also contact Showa. Your dealer should check to see if the nitrogen charge is ok especially if no one else is complaining.

If you want ultimate adjustability without revalving, these are coming soon. Made in USA

$1500 each for 2.5 and $2800 each for 3.75? Gold and platinum! My '21 isn't plush by any means with the ST springs but it's totally fine if it takes that much to make it better. Ride in a Teryx T2 for a while then get into a stock Talon of any vintage; it's plush!

I have a solution that would make a SIGNIFICANT improvement on your opinion of your stock shocks.

$50 for a 30min ride in my p5 with WE aftermarket shocks. You will quickly recalibrate your attitude to just how good your stock Showas are and see that you, in fact, do no need an aftermarket solution.

$50 is cheap compared to these aftermarket solutions. Even if you have to take the occasional repeat recalibration ride, that's still a bargain!
