P1000 Oil Viscosity

I live in the south where the temperature is usually warm, even through most of the winter. I was thinking about using 20W-50 full synthetic motorcycle oil designed for wet clutches in an attempt to quiet the transmission down.

Thoughts?

In your climate zone, I would use 10W40 syn or dyno! I am using Honda HP4 synthetic cuz that's what I have and use in Goldwing.

In the owners manual, it shows temperature ranges and the acceptable oil viscosity. I can't remember if 20w-50 is listed there for high temps... but I know 10w-40 is and that is what I use.

20W50 is not listed!

Personally, I would do the OEM recommendation and if you are concerned, then I would make the intervals between change half the time period recommended.

My chief concern is using the right type of oil. I'm willing to experiment with the viscosity, I just don't want to screw the clutch discs up. Is a full synthetic motorcycle oil that is specifically designed for use with wet clutches acceptable?

It just has to be JASO compliant. I'm running 10w40 Royal Purple Max Cycle.

Mobile 1 makes a motorcycle oil and I have used it in my Goldwing also.

Update: Changed engine and transmission oil to Valvoline 20w-50 full syn JASO MA motorcycle oil. Engine blew up. Just kidding..... Can't tell any significant difference other than shifting may be a bit smoother. No noticeable noise reduction.
