My p500 is about a year old now with 596 miles on it. Alot of times when I ride for a long period of time and cut it off it makes a little poof sound. Anybody else have anything like that happen to theirs?

check your air filter. Also, could be bad gas.

Yes i have removed the plug & even left it out. It's done this from the day i brought it home. The air filter is clean as a pin.Don't really bother me but I figured after it got some mileage on it it would quit.

Good point and reminder. I'm doing that to mine today, it's been a long time.

Didn't catch from the op that this condition persisted since day one. I wonder if yours was a tad off timing from the factory?

Well that is strange... I don't think I've ever heard mine backfire. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

If you're still under warranty, I would definitely take it to the dealer. It should not be backfiring like that.

Oh... I'll listen to mine and see if I notice it doing that. Hopefully it's just normal operation.

Try gas with no ethanol.. We switched all our stuff to non ethanol and everything runs waaaay better. Mowers and tractors and atvs use to backfire with regular gas but with the non ethanol.. All that is gone. Plus it's far better on the machines. Check around and see if there are any stations where you live that sale conventional gas with no ethanol.

Now you're going and getting fancy! We're lucky to have a none ethanol option at all!
Ha, not fancy, but it's true, premium ethanol free if it's available. It almost always is by the lakes.

The only non-eth available around our area is 91 octane. I use it everything outside of my vehicles. Outboards, I/O, chainsaws, pressure washer, lawn mowers, and sxs. I don't know if it will fix the OPs shut-off farting, but will prevent having allot of issues with water in the gas.

I'm by two lakes.. No premium just regular.
Hate to live where you do. Everybody knows boats need non ethanol premium. It's at every marina on my lake.;)
