I can’t see the numbers on the installed ones. I’ll pull them tonight and check. The back Springs, I think, are 706201124.

Okay, problem solved, the part number shows "yellow front spring". I knew something was wrong. Well at least I know how to break down the springs now.

PARTS SEARCH RESULTS
ASSEMBLIES WHERE 706201124 IS USED
It looks like in the parts diagram the number above was used in the front assemblies on the XTP model with the external reservoir. The part number I have on my front springs sitting on the shelf is 706200860. Don't know if that helps or not.

Both of the guys I bought the springs and shocks from had installed a Fox system on their Commanders. I was really surprised at the cheap look and feeling of the Honda stock shocks/springs when compared to the Commander stock shocks/springs. My 700-4 rides good with just me in it but when you throw in a passenger(s) and a day's worth of hunting gear and equipment, I found it really lacking. Especially in the areas here in AZ where we hunt. It can get pretty rough.

Update:

It's amazing what happens when you put the right part into the right spot. Got the front Commander springs onto the front shocks and installed. Clearance measured at the center of the front skid plate unloaded went fromt 9.5" to 12". Ride is pretty good so far. I also put a rear 2" coilover spacer on the back rear shocks to lift up the back a bit to level out the pre runner look you get with the fronts. The real test will be tomorrow when I'm out chasing coyotes..

Do you have a source of supply for the 14mm tubing and a part number?
I got a set of 4 shocks for $150 Plus shipping ($200 total). I have the bushings coming $1.99 each plus shipping ($18 total) and the 14mm tubing $2.50 (for 12") plush shipping ($15 total) coming. So Total cost of conversion = $233. I'm going to be impressed if the ride is half as good as a $1400 set of Fox's.

I'm going to try the springs that come on the shocks. I can change them later if I think they can be improved.

Hmmmmm. This has been a while. Let me dig.

Check out post number 66 on this thread. That's where many of us got ours. It ships out of Australia so it takes a couple of weeks to get it.

Ok another update for shock options! I decided I wanted fox shocks and began researching commander fox shocks. Boy are those expensive! Did you all know the Can-Am Maverick XXC came with fox shocks? And they are a simple version that has a rebound adjustment and precise preload adjustment to get your ride height where you want it. I found a set of fronts for $400 shipped. Pretty reasonable for fox shocks. They came off a 2014 Maverick XXC. Some of the XXC came with 10mm shock mounts, some 12mm. These were 12 that I got. I simple drilled out the shock mount tabs from 10mm to 12mm. Now there is an adapter that just came out 3 days after I drilled my holes. So if you find these shocks, no drill needed. Simply throw on a set of $24 RB3 shock sleeves and you’re set. The spring rate is 175 pound and these shocks are rebuildable. They are .4” longer than the commander front shocks but otherwise the same. And the ride height is more adjustable so you can keep the cv angles in check. As far as rear options go, there’s not much room in there for remote reservoir or bottom mounted springs so I think the commander rears will have to stay.

You will love it.

Welcome to the forum. Where are you in La?

I am around the Shreveport area. I have had my buggy since 2016 but just now getting around to doing modifications. Cant wait to install the commander shocks! I will install the fronts this weekend but the bushings and sleeves will not be here until next week so the rears will have to wait.

Here is a test.
Drop some 2x4's on the ground and a 4x4 if you like.
Do a before and after drive over the boards.
You WILL feel the difference.

I'm down the interstate from you East of Monroe.

Good test but I could tell a difference just driving down a paved road. Really could tell in the yard.

I live down a road that is in pretty bad shape right now. Going to take the wife for a ride before installing the new shocks to see if she can tell a difference after install. She doesnt know I bought them... yet. I'm very familiar with Monroe. Have family that lives there and I graduated from La Tech a "few" years ago.

I have been looking for about a year for some commander shocks and finally found a pair of the red colored ones I like. They have 2 miles on them. They are labeled
Front shocks: 706200782
Front springs: 706201367

Rear shock: 706000615
Rear spring: 706001043

The seller stated they came off a 2016 commander 800 dps, which from my understanding still has the same springs as a xt. (Maybe not now) what do y'all think?

So I got my commander shocks put on tonight. I got a set from a 2012 Commander XT 1000. I found them by browsing craigslist, when I'd see a newer model Commander XT with aftermarket shocks, I replied asking if they still had the stock shocks, I scored and found a set of 4 with the black springs.

Ordered the bushings and British metal tube from ebay, then came across a good deal on a set of red springs from a commander, so I scooped them up as well. Only issue we ran into was the British metal tubing, I had to ream it out a little with a drill bit to make the Honda bolts go in. Might be a change in bolt size on the 2017's?

Front install was a breeze, I did that myself before my buddy got here. Rears were tougher, had to disconnect the sway links, and we used ratchet straps to compress the spring to get the whole shock in, but once we figured that out, the other side went in much easier.

We took a quick ride and it seems like a better ride, but we're going on a poker run Saturday so that'll be the real judge of ride quality. I forgot to measure before, but there's definitely a slight lift. Overall, looks like money and time well spent! Thanks to all the starters of this thread that did the research and testing to make this easier for the rest of us!

I went from 11.75 ground clearance to just shy of 15 inches .
