Finally moved out to an acreage this year and now have a new dilemma...how to move snow?

I have a fairly long drive.

I already have a good reliable 30” snow blower that can toss snow quite some ways.

I also have ole trusty, a IH 706 diesel tractor with a loader and cab (no heat yet).

And I have my Pioneer 1000-5 that has a heater, but no plow. It’s really setup for ice fishing.

As much as I love ole trusty, easy starting and cold weather isn’t what she is known for. Typically starting the 706D involves plugging in its engine tank heater for 1 hour and 2 minutes on the glow plugs to bring her to life in sub zero weather.

I think that if I put a plow on the Pioneer I would able to quickly clear just enough in the morning before work that I could use the 706D to move the ridges back on the weekend or when necessary. My concern is that the plow will not be easily removed when I want to go ice fishing. Thus my hesitation.

I don’t need a fancy plow, just one that won’t break the bank ($500 or so) and is easily removed ( if one exists).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hey,
I'll shoot you a message with some prices on Denali plows.
But I'll state right now your budget is tight.
You need at least a 72". They make quick release pins where you just have to unhook the winch and pull 2 pins and you can be off to the lake.

If you have a lot to plow in distance you should look at the pro plows. But you're going to have to work on that budget.

You can view our selection of snowplows here --> Snow Plow

Thanks.

Nice!

I had no idea! I’ll definitely check it out.

I’m not afraid to spend a bit more on a good unit.

Lots of options, and pretty much every thing out there is "quick release" - 2 pins, unhook winch and drive away.
Have to go 72". Then you will be able to angle the plow and still cover your tracks.
Plan to spend $575 - $800 for a basic 72" kit. If you get fancy with power angle, etc it will cost much more

I'm still not sure which setup i'll end up with. I previously used a KFI on my 500 and it was a very high quality setup. But it's on the higher end of the price range... I'll probably just buy the Tusk setup from Rocky Mountain. It's about the cheapest out there and the reviews seem to be okay

Subscribed.

How much of the mounting plate hangs down when the plow isn't attached? I'm afraid I'd bend the crap out of those two tabs on the Denali in the off-season. Do most owners remove the plate in the summer too?

also.. the instructions state "some trimming" is needed when used with a Warn winch mount.. how much? Where specifically?

How important are the plow fairlead and the other pulley?

not sure about the denali setup, but other setups i have seen for the 1000 are very simple. Just 4 bolts and the mount plate is on or off so it would be very easy to remove.

I've done some research since that post, and it looks like the Warn system doesn't protrude much. Also has excellent reviews.

Is the power turn a nice to have or a need to have?

I’m assuming that most just leave the plow angled to one direction and use it that way?

Running a KFI plow with Slasher bumper so winch is easily accessible. Also running two inch strap on winch instead of rope or cable. Harbor Freight 3500...less than $100 on sale. Two pins & winch hook to drop plow. Worked well through first Montana winter which started with a whimper and turned into a bear...

I'd highly recommend working working with Richard. Awesome customer service, super helpful and great communication. I just did the Denali set-up (with power turn) everything came in one day. Helps that it ships from MN and I'm in MN, but you being in SD should have similar turn arounds. It does take a bit to build it all up, but seems like a really nice unit.

Pulling the plow/push-bar off would take under a minute, then you could easily scoot out for ice-fishing. The attachment fits up pretty nicely and shouldn't impede your need for clearance on a lake.

Only "negative" was that I had to trim the metal brackets to make them fit on my machine. But a couple seconds with an angle grinder (or 35mins with a dremmel in my case -- sigh) will solve that.

I have a Denali. Not the Pro series but it is BEEFY!. I honestly think the Pioneer would wear out before this thing will.
Came with a spare wear bar too.

I keep 2 wrenches handy to remove 1 bolt/nut to free the cable and 2 hitch pins and its off.
Guessing it takes 2 minutes.
I also keep a couple of 2 x 4's on the floor and place them under the push tubes before I pull the pins out.
That keeps it at the right height when I pull back in to reconnect it.

happy hunting.

I’ve been using my 72” Eagle for a few years now. I would say power angle is both nice & needed. True you can try & leave it angled to one side but you inevitably have to get out to change angles & it gets to be a pain after doing it for so long. If I ever upgrade plows my next one will have a power angle.

Yeah I’m gonna roll with the plow from Richard...just got to get around to ordering it.

Had 4 inches of the white crap last week. Fortunately it melted the next day.

When installing the mount, will i need to remove the after factory front skid plate? I am a bit skeptical to remove because of the self tapping screws may not snug up again after taking them out.

can’t say for sure when it comes to other brands, but you don’t have to remove it when installing the KFI mount.

I just installed the open trail by kfi on my 1000-5 this past weekend. Super easy install. Directions are very easy to follow all the parts were heavy duty. Side by side parts has them on sale right now.

Update
Finally got the Denali plow mostly installed.

Thanks to Richard and the pricing on a great product!

I sprung for the hydro turn mostly because Delta paid me to take another flight in my travels.

We had a snow storm last night and my pioneer was still in her summer clothes, so that took most of the morning, combined with the 3/4” toe in that was killing my tires.

I ordered the pulley kit, but after seeing how it runs and not being able to use my winch for other things, I’m going to use the steel cable until my replacement winch ropes arrive. Once they arrive I’ll clean up the pulley and fairlead rollers and use them instead of the 6’ lead in the kit.

My pioneer has a HF 5000 lb winch on a kfi mount. I did not have to trim the mounting plate at all. Getting the spacers in was interesting but it all lined up.

The instructions were very clear.

I still have to clean up the wiring yet, but it was a fun first run especially considering I have never had a plow before!

One thing I learned was that the bumper mounted lights suck with a plow.

Got the okay from the wife to spring for a 52” light bar all in the name of safety.

Any suggestions on mounts with the Honda windshield?

Edit: looks like there are one or two threads on the subject. Going to check them out.
