I'm having a hard time removing this splines coupler from the diff. It must be removed to replace the seal. Last time a seal was leaking, I was able to push the seal back in without removing this. The seal is still leaking so now I must remove this to put a new one in it.

This retaining ring is on the end of the pinion shaft. I cannot get it out. This is a new one that I purchased just in case I break the old one

The stinking service manual says "remove the pinion joint". Not how to remove the joint.

The retaining ring seems to be stopping me. After lunch, I'll back out there and try again with the puller and use o-ring picks to locate the ring to see if it helps.

Hmm... That shouldn't be stopping it with that much trouble unless it is messed up and jamed or something.
It should just pull off.

I'm surprised you got that flange off the joint without tearing it up.

It's going back together with a new o-ring, new retaining ring, pinion joint, and seal.

I'll also be glueing this seal in place as recommended by a friend

Wait.. You did. Lol.

If you could find a way to give it a hard even jerk should pop right off.

Yeah, that's the way the axle shafts come out but this piece didn't have any play to get a good jerk on it.

Speaking of the axle shafts, when I jerked the passenger side axle shaft I pulled apart the CV joint.

I got the rear differential reassembled and installed and now I've got a put the CV joint back together

Glad you got it man. I was gonna ask if it unscrews like on the foreman/rancher diffs. A piece of 1.5" square tubing fits in there almost perfectly (minor grinding required). Anyhow, you got it. Thats all that matters.

The ring popped out of the CV when trying to pop out the axle from the diff.

Filling the diff with oil now. Hope to test drive in a few minutes.
Well?

Oh yeah, been riding and having fun. Took the family for a ride around our place. That was some good slow riding with 4 people. I'm sure the diff was hot from that.

Then my brother came over and we strapped in and ran as fast as we could thru the trails and then 60+ on a back road. So far, all is good.

I would have replied earlier but I was operating another piece of Honda equipment, A Honda HRX lawn mower.

As for that pinion joint, I don't know why it wouldn't come off easy.

After I put the new one on, it would pop on and off easily.

Glad it's back up and running. Holler if you're free tomorrow or wednesday

I wish☹️

Going to work in KY Monday and Tuesday and MS Wednesday and Thursday. I should be off on the weekend again which I know doesn't help you.

I'm over due for a ride for sure.

Are you talking about the one at the very rear with the metal cover?

There's one bolt remove the cover and the sensor connector has a rubber boot it slides off and then you can unplug it.
