I spend a lot of time going through tall grass and running over unseen rocks in my work.

Does anyone one here know of a source for a heavy duty skid plate?

I have seen aluminum ones advertised but think metal is what I really need, especially the front portion which takes the hit.

Thank you for any comments you have, and for all who keep this great forum going.

UHMW the way to go. Stronger then steel and slides over rocks like butter.

Thanks for the feedback Alan and solrus, do you have a brand to recommend? Found this:Honda Pioneer 500 UHMW Skid Plate Underbody SSS Off Road
I had bad experience with sss , I found his skid plate on overstock.com for a lot cheaper, called the guy to sell it directly, he refused and canceled my order on overstock too, bc he wanted to maintain mrsp across all retailers. I made my own instead paying this greedy punk. There is another seller on eBay, half price.

I have the SSS OffRoads and personally I would never buy anything else. They have saved my machine many times going over some nasty rocks.
The SSS Offroad looks like it covers a wider area, including the floor boards. I depend on my P500 for my work so wiling to pay extra.

It covers the under-carriage very well from side to side and front to back.

This is what I have but it doesn't cover the rockers. Used Ricochet rock sliders for that area.
I used to have a arm guards, I didn't like having to dig all the debris out of them constantly, the debris packed around the axel boots it's hard on axel boots and for lands sake don't let the mud dry before you clean them out. I did install higher clearance a arms as well that helped with clearance and helped with the need for A arm protection.

Have aluminum skids, hard hits bowed it up between the P500 frame causing rub/rattle on engine mount. Had to bend it back. Seems UHMW is the most popular.
