all i can say on this is i am running 12 lbs of boost with a catch can and have yet to have any oil in it.

that is a scary looking thing to happen. id prob toss in a set of pistons after that. just to be sure. the compression test mite be ok for now. but recheck in a few hundred miles
By routing the vent to the catch can you eliminate the vacuum effect on the breather hose.

High cylinder pressures / Boost forces a tighter piston ring.

you should be less likely to have oil in the can than stock in the air filter housing.

Update,
I did not have the correct compression tester adapter so on a whim I decided to see if it was a fluke.

I think i had a perfect storm,
missing the foam at the valve cover vent.
tear in R2C filter
Oil got on the filter and plugged it for extreme suction situation
High rpm high speed passes in sand dunes for half a tank of fuel.
amsoil 0w20 “atv utv” gold plated oil maybe sprays really easily??

all of these may have been the cause of oil in the airbox.

anyhow I went all stock filters, replaced foam in valve cover vent, oil change with 10-40 Honda dino oil, buttoned everything up and drove it around for 10 miles.

no more smoke, no run ability issues, runs great feels like it has good power.
Will test more but I’m cautiously optimistic I dodged a bullet.
^^^^ this guy was WAY too optimistic.
pulled the airbox cover just to peek and had about a cup of oil in there.

dropped it at the dealer along with my firstborn.

Man, that sucks....
I recently sold my interest in an LLC so I have the cash.

not the investment opportunity I had in mind for 1/10th of it though. (Assuming it’s $8k to fix)

I really don’t have the time to do it myself though.

on the 7 week sprint to finish this.

Honda shop found 65 psi front and 85 psi rear cylinder.

machine ran remarkably well given that fact.

cylinders and pistons toast.

quoted $7-8k roughly and 5 weeks.

parts are available.

I have been in the same situation you are, but mine wasn't in nearly as bad of condition as as yours. The down time was a stopper for me, the unknowns and a dealer who didn't want anything to do with it were the final blows. I was fortunate enough to sell it as is to a guy who was willing to take the risk and do all necessary work himself. I never got very far into looking for a complete take out engine or selling it to someone for salvage. Have you explored either of these options? Dont know how your location (shipping) would affect you. Hope r2c steps up and this comes out well for you.

If it wasn’t the end of the season I wouldn’t have brought it in.

a complete Remanufactured engine is 6k

the Honda dealer is willing and able. (Plus I trust them)

I don’t have any time to work on it.

R2C has been blowing off the other guy in my same situation. (Well known guy on this forum)

assuming R2C does nothing they will gain a very vocal detractor. I talk to dealers independent shops and enthusiasts all over the state quite often.

it pisses me off but I’m positive that selling it as is would lose more money than 8k vs what I have into it.

Update:

both clutches smoked. (Add $1k)
They actually found pebbles on top of the pistons 😵‍💫

new 2022 updated internal parts are available for sub transmissions. Dealer is putting those in at the same time.

the 2022 talons will have them. Guy said shift drum and detent improvements.

Been waiting on this info to drop. Where did you (or dealer) find it.

We heard about this from our Service Advisor on his last stop.We ordered a few for future rebuilds.

Its a new shift star and shift shaft with a hollowed out center for oil flow. The star has a more aggressive ramp.
I heard the same from the service writer.

Sounds like I need these parts for my engine rebuild this winter. Where do I find these parts, anybody got part numbers for this stuff yet?

@Sheetmetalfab You still willing to sell me the old cases?
