That's pretty cool but it does raise a question - I get 2 or 3 cups of oil draining out when I pull the oil filter cover off, how do you get that trapped oil out of the engine now that it can't flow downhill? Still pull that new cover?

My setup to catch the oil when I pull the cover.

I would say, yes, still pull the cover @ oil change.

I see this as something that helps you avoid fighting with the OEM filter and O-ring and, more importantly, provides the means to run an external oil cooler and/or oil filter, the latter you could change in a few seconds without changing the oil if you so choose.

You can replace the stock oil cooler with an adapter from an R1 and run a big cooler from there. That's how mine is plumbed. With the Bell adapter in place you have no choice but to run an external oil filter because the adapter takes the place of the stock element.

Ordered a set of Raceco 4140 hubs and wheel studs last night. They are 80% stronger than the stockers and a 1/2lb lighter each. There goes another 2lbs of rotating mass off the drivetrain. Zoom zoom...

Put the engine in, got the driveline installed and then put the rear suspension together so it actually looks like something again....

Couple days worth of work and a break in tune from PPEI and this thing should be running again!

And let me tell you, it sounds NASTY! Once I get the rest of the car together I'll start doing test laps around the property so PPEI can look at the run logs and fine tune it for me.

It's my understanding that a NA 1000 cc triple can make more HP than a 1000 cc twin, which raises the questions - 1. True? False? 2. Are you in the same class as the YXZs? 3. Are you competitive with them/feel it's a fair race? 4. Was the car in pieces when you moved? How did you find everything to reassemble?

I got to ride in a built NA YXZ, the thing was brutally fast.

I race against YXZ's, RS-1's ect in my class. YXZ's make big HP but at high RPM and you have to rev them to the moon to go fast. They are tough to beat on a wide open fast track but throw corners and technical sections in there and the Talon outshines it with torque.

Yes, the car was apart when I moved to the new house. Kept everything organized and in the race trailer and had no issue finding everything to put it back together.

I took my Talon camping for Labor Day. We have been going to this dry lake bed since 2006. It was totally dry when I got there but when the wind started blowing hard it moved water from the south end to the north. I went from fine to fooked in about an hour. I was out for a ride and when I got back there washu water at the trailer. No getting out in wet clay. As the afternoon progressed it got worse. Friday morning saw the water receding but the afternoon came back with a vengeance. More water. The wind finally died on Saturday and Sunday but the rain rolled in.

When I checked Wednesday night there was a chance of showers on Sunday. By Thursday PM it was rain for the weekend.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm retired and don't need to be anywhere soon. It'll probably be Wednesday or Thursday before I get out.

I'm washing mine after the week in the mud. I don't know why people ride mud on purpose! These things have so many little nooks and crannies it's like trying to clean butter out of an English muffin! (I carry the blower to blow the DUST off before loading. Not a problem this time!)
