Hello, we’re currently in the market for a used 1000-5. I have found one available in our area that I think I can get for a good deal, however it is super high miles and hours. Like 9k miles and 16k hours. Normally I wouldn’t even consider something with that high, however this unit looks very clean and in great shape. It’s a 2018 and was used on a farm and the drive to families house on the backroads. For similar prices or a little more, I have found other units, usually older with less miles but look pretty abused. So what’s more important? Miles/hours or how it was used. What are some things to look for with that high hours? And what are some things that will need repaired soon?
Also, what do you think this would be worth? It’s a 2018 limited edition, minor upgrades like a windshield, back glass, etc.
thanks for the help!

Have a picture of the machine? Mileage is subjective, but I wouldn't be scared of a 9k mile Pioneer if it's lived on a farm and been serviced as it should. Plenty of high mileage Pioneers and Talons in this group.

How it was used 100%. I'd steer clear of anything used that has been snorkeled, aftermarket arms, axles, lifts, etc. if you're new to this. Nothing wrong with those things, but there are waaaay too many hacks out there and you'll be inheriting someone else's mess most of the time. Look for bent tie-rods, tires that are worn non uniformly (could be as simple as alignment issue, but could be frame damage/bent suspension components/steering rack/etc), bent a-arms, etc. Check to make sure it shifts easily into Reverse and Low without any grinding or excessive force needed. If you post up a few pictures of the unit you're looking at we can probably give you a better idea what to check out specifically.

That is a clean unit, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, especially for $9K. Like Adam mentioned, don't let the "high mileage" scare you. Some members here have well over 20/30/40K miles and still running strong.

Agreed, I wouldn't hesitate to buy that one at all. LE models have i-4wd, which up until recently did not have aftermarket options for the axles (they have tone rings for the i-4WD speed sensors) so most of your typical yahoo's stayed away from them since they couldn't put 12" lifts without longer axles. So that's probably a really nice, unmolested unit. Especially still on the stock big horns!

It looks like a good machine, but I don't see where he said it was $9000. 9k miles.

Unless I missed something.

Anyway, you'll generally see a machine like that posted in the $15k range, I'd guess (haven't shopped them much lately.) With the miles you should be able to work back from there.

I definitely am staying away from anything snorkeled,
Id be leery of anything NOT snorkeled!
These rigs need to be. The vents are low and not deep water or deep (NoHmo) isnt good for them. Id ask how much water do you drive in or have drivin in?
As for the milage, i wouldn't worry about that with these rigs. Check the brakes and fluids.
Also see if it still has the G-string skid plates and If it does how much off roading and what type dod did they do.
