Be careful, I wouldn’t want you to burn your Pioneer up...

The voltage drop just started happening cause I’ve finally got to use the bar for extended periods, that’s why I’m trying to get this solved before something bad happens with the electrical system. I think the deep cycle would help, why wouldn’t normal car sized wires work to run from the isolator to the aux battery?

expand on that Montecristo please. I still do not see running 40 amps for long period of times on 14 gauge wire. Maybe I over size most of my wiring because of my commercial/ industrial electrical background and need to educate myself a little more on 12v wiring.

If you’re going to put the auxiliary battery adjacent to the OEM battery under the hood they will. But you said you were wanting to use a standard rapid cycle automotive battery under the seat?????

No, my commentary was meant to compliment what you were saying. Low voltage falls fast, so you must compensate with larger wiring. I would use a 6 or 8 AWG on 30 amp with low voltage.

Gotcha. I thought I was missing something and you were about to teach me something new. This low voltage wiring is fairly new to me. Love this site and all the knowledge on it.

I’d put a meter on it I had a 300watt bar and if you read the fine print it was 300watt incandescent equivalent.i put a meter and it was drawing <7amps.

14ga is limited to 15amps I think by most AWG calcs.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong on AWG calc for 5% voltage drop on copper at 12v, I think 8 would be heavy enough for 40 amps 6 for 50.

It may be frying 16ga but I would put it on 8 or better if it’s a true 500w/40amp draw.

So 4 or 6 guage multi strand?

If you’re going to run the distance to under the seat, I wouldn’t go smaller than an AWG of 0

Ran #2 from battery under seat to fuse box under hood. No problems in 2 years.

500w light bar pulls 40 amps of of current.
SXS takes about 6 amps to run. Charging system is around 45 amps. 40+6=46.
Stator will be short lived if you run that bar really long times without a custom stator and rectifier.

Anyone making a higher output state for the Pioneer?

What is the amp draw for the stock halogen headlights versus a set of led bulbs, thinking it would help some...
