Update: Just took the plunge and purchased a 2017 P500 with very low miles and loaded with optional equipment from forum member jspeed. We are working on how to get it to me. Very smooth transaction and the machine looks beautiful! My family and I are very excited and looking forward to getting some advice from all of you. Thank you all very much for your help!
Awesome and congrats to you both!

P500 purchased from @JSPEED arrived today! Took for a few quick spins during the PA snowstorm. The machine is beautiful - in like-new condition. Looking forward to getting familiar with it and having some fun! I'll be asking lots of questions...!

Just so you understand I own a Pioneer 500 (P-500) but use a Polaris Ranger 500 (R-500) at work a couple day a week. My take on it is...P-500 rougher ride but much more capable in rough country. R-500 smoother ride but get stuck way more often in the same trails my P-500 cruises through. Part of this is tires but some is the machine. R-500 is much louder....very hard to talk with co-worker/clients. P-500 is slower but 90% of the time that does not matter & in low gear it will crawl up stuff the R-500 spins out on due to the higher rpms and wheel spin. Ground clearance is very close turning radius is very close. P-500 has never stranded me......R-500 has burned 2 belts and left me walking in from a timber site (6.5 miles) no cell service so hoofing it.
Over all I would never give up my P-500 for the R-500.

Thanks for that great, real-world-use information. Haven't had a chance to ride much yet - busy at work. I run it daily and I've been reading/familiarizing myself with the machine.

Looking forward very much to getting out soon when this insane cold goes away and work lets up a bit!

Well, it was, but my son wanted red, so @JSPEED swapped out the original hood and fenders. The blue is in my garage just in case I could talk him into swapping someday!

If you talk your son into the blue I would be interested in the red plastics :D

OK I'll keep you posted on that.

Had a chance to take a ride on a snowy trail near my home Sunday night with my older son. It was a nice ride - the P500 handled all very well. I had to use 4WD due to the snowy, slick trails, but it was a fun ride. So far I'm impressed - can't wait until I could get out again!
