I went with self tapping screws first to avoid drilling the larger holes....

Well 8 of them on one side skid ripped out...

First time the wife has ever got out. Was a nasty spot and closest I have came yet to rolling the Pioneer. She saw Todd roll and is not convinced the cages are safe.

Now I am adding gussets to all the side tubes, so they will just get drilled and tapped for 6 mm screws

To me, that is the downside of UHMW-only skids. They don't add any strength or rigidity to the underside. I know the UHMW slides over rocks easier, but I'm still looking pretty hard at aluminum skids for that reason.
The UHMW blows Aluminum away. I have it on my 500 and it’s tough stuff! Aluminum bends...
