Anyone install one of these Tough Country front bumpers?
Any airflow problems? What are the tabs that need braced?I have one and love it. Very well made bumper. Only weakness is the mounting method to the Pioneer. I bent it the first time I really had to winch. I welded up some better mount now it's a tank.View attachment 328586

What are tabs you're talking about?View attachment 328588
I've got 1 on my 3 seater. I love the bumper but like said above, you need to brace the tabs. I haven't done it yet and mine are bent now. I have a 6000 lb winch from the club store mounted on it. Top mount is the only way to go IMO.
I don't have a Tough Country bumper so can't answer for sure. I have the OEM Honda bumper on my '21 SE, shown below. The winch in this bumper is mounted a low as possible, center is below the fairlead. Mounting points are about in line with frame bracing. Note that this particular bumper (and not speaking to Tough Country, though it could well be similar), the upper part of the bumper is cantilevered up there - i.e. there is no supporting structure at or for the upper part of the bumper. That part is entirely dependent upon the strength of what appears to be the thin wall steel tubing it's made from. What are tabs you're talking about?
I've been looking for a bumper with the winch mount down low and a light mount above the radiator opening, leaving the winch more accessible than the stock bumper, anyone seen anything like this? I haven't. May have to learn how to weld.I don't have a Tough Country bumper so can't answer for sure. I have the OEM Honda bumper on my '21 SE, shown below. So, from the standpoint of preventing things from bending while winching, it's good that Honda put the winch down low on *their* bumper.

Me too. The Slasher bumper mount is low. I've looked and looked and can't find any old stock, discontinued.I've been looking for a bumper with the winch mount down low and a light mount above the radiator opening, leaving the winch more accessible than the stock bumper, anyone seen anything like this? I found you old post. I see what you talking about. For the price of the bumper, you'd think they would have already figured that out.No airflow issues and really protect the front. I am trying to find the pictures but if you search the forum you will see what we are talking. I have posted my bent tabs and my redesign of using box tube and making the upper mounts like the stock bumper so your bolts are in double shear and you have additional reinforcement in all directions.

I'm thinking winch even lower and get rid of the squared off edges?Me too. The Slasher bumper mount is low. I've looked and looked and can't find any old stock, discontinued.View attachment 328594
The also got the warn top mount winch bumper but it gives you zero fender protection. I like the way it's mounted. On top, and it looks like the correct center of pulling pressure. No, fender protection scares me. Don't get me wrong, I not out bouncing off trees, but one little inch to far and your into some pocket money.I've been looking for a bumper with the winch mount down low and a light mount above the radiator opening, leaving the winch more accessible than the stock bumper, anyone seen anything like this? I have that bumper on my 5 seater and would much rather have the rough country bumper.Me too. The Slasher bumper mount is low. I've looked and looked and can't find any old stock, discontinued.View attachment 328594
Yep that 1/4in tab set up just can't handle the load but since I have boxed my I have not issues. I have knocked over lots of trees and brush with the bumper and have used the winch a lot. I relike the winch up high. Keeps it out of water and mud and makes it easy to get too when needed.I found you old post. I see what you talking about. You added or thats what the bumper weighed?Yep that 1/4in tab set up just can't handle the load but since I have boxed my I have not issues. I found some of my before and in process pictures. Took we a afternoon too do. A little hard by your self, bumper is heavy. Plus I had to upgrade my suspension from the deluxe stock to the FOX so I could get my ride height back. I added over 600lbs between bumper, skid plate, trial tools, med kit, dual battery, stero, etcView attachment 328596View attachment 328597View attachment 328598View attachment 328599
