Already booked and registered for this years ride including motel. "You can take the boy out of Michigan, but you can't take Michigan out of the boy". Convinced a friend and his wife in Jackson County to take the Trek also, nice to see them again.
I can't recall how many times I've crossed that bridge, but I gotta believe it is an awesome experience in a SxS.
I contacted the organizers though FB message and they are going to do a "Ride after the Ride" like they did last year to Trout Lake (they just don't know where they're going yet), I was happy to hear that since a nearly 1200 mile one way journey for a 5 mile bridge crossing might be considered slightly ridiculous by some.

for what its worth, the ride across the bridge is spectacular. the ride to trout lake is very flat and kinda boring all to come up to a gas station at trout lake lol! @trigger and @PistonHonda can concur on this. but its definitely worth the ride at least once to trout lake for the wonderful views of the UP wilderness. were going to take a trip to drummond island this time to ride.

It's more than just a ride across the bridge. There's stuff going on in St. Ignace the night before and everyone gathers at an arena for lunch after the ride. It's a solid half day... mostly because it takes a while to ride from the staging area to the arena.

I should add some interviews to my videos. :D Wait... that could be a bad idea. It would just be @trigger and @Remington calling me some foul names.
Maybe @trigger would! Hehehehehe

Crossed the Mac many times to and from MTU, but always in a car, I'm sure it's really spectacular on a SxS and worth the trip from Alabama in itself, I had sent a PM to the organizers about a side trip. Are you organizing the trip to Drummond?, I might be interested in that one.

Possibly. I may have spoke prematurely on that just yet. It’s something we have discussed heavily but not etched in stone. If it happens, it’s roughly about a 1-3/4 hr drive there so we will have to get a move on quickly after we cross the bridge, so no bbq at the arena and other activities (ben there done that lol). Once at De Ture, theres a 30$ fee each accross the barge to the island just FYI.

I've heard rumor of some sand dunes in MI. Any chance one could sneak in a stop wherever they are as a pre or post ride on this ride over a long bridge adventure?

You could, it's a bit of a trip from the bridge though. Silver Lake Sand Dunes, right on Lake Michigan. Baldwin trail system is right there as well and I've heard they are the best trails in the state.

I worked in the Hart, MI area back in 2010-12, stayed in Ludington, and went out to Silver Lake one weekend... man, was it busy! There was a huge line of vehicles waiting to get in... was going to be well over an hour wait so we turned around and left. Really wanted to go back and try again before the project was over and never got the chance to. We sure loved that area of Michigan!

I could make it "on my way" then I guess. So many places to ride...so little time.

Or maybe skip the bridge altogether and just check out the dunes and trails around there. Maybe it will be less busy because people are at the bridge. ;)

Use to do the silver lake dunes all the time. Memorial Day is when we always went and was the worst! Staying in line overnight for hrs. Was fun when I was young. Now a days there’s a lot of crazy hot heads that drive like it’s the Indianapolis 500 for sxs’s On there. Maybe a bit overstated but it’s a lot more wild then when I use to go. There are plenty of trails like @trigger stated that are good with sand you can ride. But experiencing silver lake at least once is worth it.
