Yep just built a fire in the little stove in the kitchen.
Almost everyone in Cape Breton has a wood fired cook stove. My old buddy Neil , would sit by his stove in his rocker, 120 degrees in there. Most people when I was younger didn’t have an electric range, and we’d walk down to BEATON’s in summer. 100 degrees outside and 140 degrees inside, but always had bread or rolls baking. I still remember that smell.

My buddy in Alberta sent me a picture yesterday of a nice deer that was sitting in a neighbors yard not far from his farm.

He knew he was safe on his lawn. Haha
I saw a couple big boys out there a couple years ago all sitting together just on the other side of the fence on Mennonite land. All no hunting.
I walked up on a big guy my first year out there hunting. He jumped up right in front of me but I didn’t think we had a Mulie tag. I watched him hop like a rabbit away. Turned out we had a tag. Haha
They got him the next year. 300 lbs

I’m trying to get my brother to go splits on this one.

That’s very cool for efficiency…👍
We didn’t care about that in the kitchen, and preferred the circa 1860’s antique. The wood stove for house heat is however a catalytic heater…..

We had an old Enterprise cook stove for years but it took too long to heat up in the winter, and burned too much wood. But once the top got heated up, it worked good. This one is an EPA approved.

If you’re wanting to heat the camp with it in addition to cooking, by all means you need the high efficiency. It’s not an issue for us, we do that with a high efficiency Vermont Castings catalytic stove, whole house heater. I love working that old dual fuel 1860’s pioneer cook stove…But I am into history, artifacts and antiques…..like I have these kind of door knobs throughout the house, and many antique fixtures….in fact all the woodwork trim I did in the house is late Victorian style…..

A lot of big old Victorian homes in our south end. They survived the Halifax explosion in 1917.
I’ve installed windows in a couple that we had to replace them from the outside and not disturb the inside trim. Pain in the ass.

A few big old houses were torn down, probably $500 K then, and built big new mansions on the property. Young Av, next to Point Pleasant Park. A giant park for the rich people. Haha
Caper
I’ll take a 150 year old maintained home over a new one any day. The lumber was superior….

Lol, yeah. You can retro if you’ve got the $$$
Oh these people got the money but built a giant house that has everything you could want in a house. When they had the house warming, a couple friends went and played fiddle. And a tour.
My buddy with the Marriott has an old Victorian that he renovated. I saw it when he moved in. Nobb and tube wiring. Definitely not now. His bathroom in the master is bigger than my upstairs.
Haha

Intrepid? Ours is a smaller one, I don't care for the catalytic part.
Yep, I’ve seen it. I love the catalytic feature on ours. Closes the fire down at night, burns with such efficiency that no smoke comes out of the chimney. This is why they make chocolate and vanilla smitty 😍
