Had a 78 chevy half ton short bed, but the titled cab was transplanted onto a similar year 1 ton chassis. It had a 400 punched out to a 406 in it. It would light up all four tires in 4wd. It got around 5mpg. It didn't pass many gas stations. A younger dumber version of myself blew the internals out through the oil pan with an epic bang. It may or may not have been during a 4wd burnout. Replaced the motor with a cheap (and ridiculously less powerful) 350 and the truck was no longer cool so I got rid of it.

I know the question was best GAS mileage but this is what I squeezed out of my 2017 6.7 diesel not towing.

The worst for me was a '77 Dodge 9000 lb. camper special extra cab.It had a warmed over and blue printed 440 in it with a torqueflite. I used it to pull an FRP 24' enclosed trailer with a '69 Road Runner race car in it. It would get 6 mpg pulling and about 10 or 11 empty depending on speed.

Forgot about my `79 Dodge I had when I lived on Kauai. 36" Super Swampers and warmed over 360 was not a good combination. Especially when gas was nearly $3 a gallon and I was an E2...

And my `87 Ramcharger was a solid 13mpg beast...

That '79 looks like a life sized Stomper toy. You win.

love the 70s chevies and dodge, they have the cool looks. my uncle had one, was a sno commander with a plow, had had these old mopar muscle cars too, but by far the most used of any toy was the truck, you can drive it every day and do what you have to do and still have some fun

i had a nice '74 gmc jimmy with the fully removeable top.that was one of my favourite trucks.it ended up with a big block ,6" lift and 1 ton dana's.it ended it's life wrapped around a telephone pole.it's economy was measured in inches but it was a riot to drive.

Got this earlier, but to clarify I was going down hill with my toy hauler with the sxs in it using only the exhaust brake. Not bad to a 6.7 diesel combined weight of close to 20 K. Uphill is another story.

I would hope it would get that downhill so it could make up some for the 2.5 up hill:rolleyes:

Actually I always get around 11 MPG on steep uphills here in Colorado with the toy hauler.
21.6 average overall pulling a toyhauler over a hill is pretty good

if you ever get really bored you load the Honda in the back of that b**** just for sizing purposes;) I think it would be comparable to a PowerWheel in the bed of most of everyone else’s truck. That thing is cool!

I've thought about it. The ramps would have to be 12 - 15 feet long. Thinking about rigging up a hydraulic lift. It has a PTO driven hydraulic pump that operates the winch.
