P500 Another Semi Epic Exploratory Journey into the Colorado Plateau.

I had my first ever snow skiing lesson today at Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort in Colorado. I had a private one on one instructor for a couple of hours. His name was Dan as well. I learned how to walk, brake and turn, although I had a difficult time turning to the right . I fell quite often. I used muscles I didn’t know I had. They all hurt now. I was slightly intimidated with the ski lift at first being somewhat nervous at heights but it was fine after the first few swings! I had a really good time and It kicked me arse but, it t’was a great experience. I’m looking forward to endeavoring to persevere. If I can move ever again...
Took a backcountry drive to Carbondale through the Crystal River Ranch. Mt. Sopris snow covered in the pix, then into the Frying Pan! I saw a herd of Elk today. It was about 60 head. Largest group of wild animals I’ve seen in a long time. A few minutes later and then there were 3 deer bucks with nice racks. Cool day! It’s reasons like this that I feel more at home in the wide expanses of the western states.

There where times in AZ when i really wondered if ELK outnumbered deer. I had never seen one up close in person before. Then, one evening as the sun was setting, one goes bolting across the trail in front of me...and its like holy $hit thats a big animal. Hope one doesn't run into me...

Ive had a moose encounter like that in my P5 last year in Idaho. I think we were equally spooked, boy was he big!

I think I’m gonna stay another week or two, to help my buddy burn ditches. He has water rights and must maintain them each year. Plus I still wanna explore more of Colorado like around Rifle, Rabbit Valley and many more parts of central and SW Colorado before heading home.

Today we too the Hagglund out for a little spin in the White River NF. Looks like great wheeling country and I’m looking forward to coming back soon to ride in my P5.

Cannot close it with camper attached. I wanted to take it off before I left on my trip but because it has some camera attached to it I did not know how to remove it.

FYI
Access port on tailgate is usually retained by 6-8 screws/bolts, remove this port and the wiring for the camera should be accessible. Disconnect the camera wiring and feed back out wiring of the camera at the base of tail gate. Wrap up the connection plug with electrical tape and secure out of the way of cargo in the bed. You can now remove your tailgate.

ETA
Depending on the system you may have a connection at the base of tailgate which can be disconnected before tailgate removal. You may have to look up under and behind your rear bumper for that connection point.

Second SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPEALODOCIOUS DAY!!!!!
Went snowmobiling for the first time ever. We went out for four hours and rode for 42 miles in the White River National Forest, Colorado. Super amazing weather all day. Phenomenal trails and terrain. I got up to 47 mph and only got stuck once in deep fluff. What a freaking awesome day!

Some of the guys I was with today were riding sleds made more for fun and for speed. The one I was on was made more for long distance touring/ workhorse. But nonetheless an excellent machine . Skidoo Bombedier?

With the proper gear you won't get cold, with adrenaline pumping you really don't think about it. Kinda chuckled when I read 'got it up to 47', that's normally cruising speed in open areas. They ride a lot lower to the ground and that just promotes speed, drape your leg over the seat and darn near drag your shoulder through a curve. They're a blast!
