2003 7.3l here. I wouldn’t trade this truck for a new one. It’s slightly tuned. I’ve completely rebuilt the drivetrain and steering system. Living in North UT, Southern ID, she’ll always fire, plugged in or not. Pulls the tires off anything I put behind it. Rides like a truck. It’s cheap and easy to fix.

So I have to ask. How did you get your handle?
Well when I joined up we were still using the school bus I converted for camping. We still have it but decided to size down. 12valve in the back, “Cummins pusher”. I decided if that engine was designed for that type of application then it would hold up in a truck, that’s all I’ve bought since.

I just bought a 2000 Ford 250 Super Duty and just love it. It is the extended cab with a long box.
It has the 7.3 with no smog crap. It also has the six speed manual. Just like driving a hot rod.
I have a 2800 pound slide in camper and usually pull a car hauler with my P500 and son's Razor on it.
He had to have a Razor because he wants to go 80 mph.

I also have a 77 High Boy with a 400m gas. This diesel could drag it all over the place.

But the diesel is really different and you have to have a different mind set. Way more modules and controls
to go bad and two balanced batteries. Costs a lot more to service also.

I can tell you not to worry too much about the grid heater
I have both, similar years, I guess I’ll find out in time which one is more maintenance free. Hoping I have no problems with either of them. I haven’t had the opportunity to put the dodge to the test yet, but the pulling power of my ford is a beast. I’m sure I’ll be equally impressed with the Dodge though!!! 👍

That’s awesome, those 7.3’s rock....
Huge polluters though, it’s a pity that ford wasn’t able to preserve the format and bring it within contemporary clean air standards....😡

I am putting together my list of stuff I want. I am going to list them in the order I plan to purchase.

Glowshift gauges/trans temp/boost/egt/fuel psi
S and B cold air intake
Sinister diesel intake elbow or equivalent
Adjustable boost elbow
Smarty JR
Airdog 100

Its my first diesel and I want to have some fun with it but I don't plan on doing anything super crazy. When the transmission dies I think I will go with a Suncoast category 2 rebuild.

That’s a hell of a good list. Especially egt and trans temp with added boost. That’s the right order too. You’ve been doing a little homework.

I have been doing alot of research. I do want to play a little with some smoke so the smarty was my choice. It's my first diesel and I have looked forward to fun with it for awhile. I chose what I did in my list of mods so when I outgrow the fun a little I should have a non abused truck :p

I purchased a factory refurbished edge cs2 on Amazon from the seller powerteq performance for $200. I couldn't pass up the price. I will see if I like it and maybe use it instead of the smarty. Worse case scenario I could probably resell it for 300 local.

That is likely a moniter for gauges and not a tuner.

It is no longer in stock. There were 4 left when I bought mine. Powerteq now has used versions for 395. If it shows up a monitor I know Amazon will take care of me. It will be here tomorrow.

I'm going to take a stab at this 1... He was using his Cummins to push all the glow plug equipped trucks that wouldn't start in the winter. Hence @CumminsPusher.

Or he is used to pushing broken down Dodge’s?

Actually never had a break down. But with an old Dodge you don’t need a brand new $60+k truck to get the job done. Some of us can’t afford a new truck every couple years to keep it dependable, that’s why old Cummins retains its value so well
