Reform is one thing. Out right gutting, defunding or abolishing as many R lawmakers want to do is a whole other thing. They proved day 1 they dont give a s*** about public lands and want to ease the ability to privatize. I'd rather not go back to the 80s and 90s in LA when we had "black" weather days. Couldn't go outside because of the smog.

That's a great question with a very simple answer. There shouldn't be. Become an independent and actually vote independent and watch politics transform in America. Too many people are partisan first and American second. This can be evidenced by the multitudes of democrats that have made excuses for Obama throughout his eight years, and the republicans that did likewise for Bush throughout his eight years. We have horrific cabinet pics by Trump already and appointments to the various agency's that will spell disaster for the environment, the economy and our foreign policy. But look at the line up to defend him that's begun already. No matter what Trump does, no matter, his supporters will stand behind him. That's the ill of partisanship!

Very true. It's just like our discussion on public land. The middle ground has been lost. Our govt is barely functioning, the loudest voices are like kids in the toy aisle screaming with their fingers in their ears because they want something.

Here in Kodiak we have some EPA issues due to proximity of our flight line to the bay. Can be a real Headache at times. But we have way bigger things to deal with than that. So it's tolerated.

Yup I grew up in Los Angeles. Moved to Portland when I was 16, then the govt has been shuttling me around since.

I get that the EPA serves a purpose.. I understand it's original intent. But as I said before the EPA has become something else. It's gone beyond the idea of keeping things above board, to an agency lacking common sense. Do a quick search on how the EPA is overstepping and you'll see what I mean.

Apparently that rancher in Wyoming dammed a creek to create his pond. You can't interfere with a navigable waterway or the watershed. I try to avoid editorials, one of those links brought up a porn addiction by some employees as evidence. I think that's more of a reflection on the individual not the agency... I will cede that the EPA needs to be reigned in a bit and politicized less. Obama has used them to his advantage for sure. At the same time, they are necessary and we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak.

Yeah.. that was a poor choice on my part as I just read the titles after doing a quick search. Point was the agency isn't without major faults and one doesn't have to look far to see that. Again, I don't disagree with you.. about throwing babies! That's one of my favorite pass times. My comments are directed towards the idea that someone who has fought against the EPA can't be a good thing. There is some major overhaul and common sense that needs to take place within the agency. Locally, there have been multiple instances where the overstepping is apparent. Everything from the threat of finning if rough cut lumber was burned to mechanics being threatened because used tires weren't kept under cover. These are instances of people just justifying the existence of their jobs.

Interestingly enough, that Wyoming rancher challenged and won. He just had to plant some willows to prevent erosion and put up a fence. Good for him! The whole story needs to be told though, both him and the EPA were in the wrong initially.

Yes, one can find legitimate instances where the EPA is overstepping its boundaries, but most of those instances can be found with regards to individual property owning Americans. It would be nice to have an environmentalist heading up the EPA with an eye toward the constitution as we've had in the past. But every single federal agency in America can be found overstepping its boundaries, including LE. But we wouldn't want a cop hater as DOJ anymore than we should want an EPA hater running that department. I'm an outdoor enthusiast and as I mentioned to you before, I remember when Lake Erie died because we had nobody to discipline the greed of American industry. That lake lives now and long live the EPA.
