This. I checked out a General at a dealership yesterday. VERY nice rig. If the made a 4+ seat general that had a short wheelbase like the Pioneer 1000-5 I'd probably consider one. Say what you will about belt drives, but if you use them properly you can get many thousands of miles out of them. And if you do manage to break one it's a lot easier to change a belt out on the trail than it is to replace a clutch.

Just did a long trip with my buddy who has a new General 4 - way smoother/faster in rough sections than my pioneer. I think the wheelbase has a lot to do with tho and i'm on stock susp his has WE shocks.

the shocks are going to make a big difference. I have rode with a general and they are nice not dogging them just saying shocks and tires go a long way in comfort of ride

Seems like there are two types on the trail - those that want to haul ass and those like me who just don't want spill their beer. I'm not in any big hurry on my Pioneer. One day i'll prob buy a performance two seater to go with my cruisy Pioneer and have the best ofboth worlds..

well do yall think Honda is going to make the pioneer 1000 right like the heat issue and really the clutches without costing us an arm and a leg. lot of people are reporting problems. I just have 15 miles on my 2017 pioneer 1000 P3 trying to get the skid plate and tires and wheels and other stuff before I get to riding a lot.

They may make changes to address some of the issues at some point, but we'll all have to pay for them if we want them. Take the updated air intake, for example.

Clutches, yes.

Heat, probably not. That is too subjective.

I had a Pioneer, it was hotter than my Defender, but it wasn't that bad. So a small change would have "fixed" it for me. While someone else might still be hot even if the heat was halved. So even if they do a fix, there will still be enough people with problems that it won't seem like a fix.

Besides, I don't know that they can do a whole bunch considering you are sitting on the heat generating part of the machine and people are comparing it to machines that have engines in different locations.

Is that like saying...

Not at all.

Different design intentions. Center engine mount gives a stable machine and allows you to put a bed with seats in it in the back.

A machine with a rear mount engine keeps the heat away from the operator but it makes it rear biased and keeps you from putting seating in the back easily.

Just a matter of where the focus is.

Clutches are different, that is fixable without changing the whole machine layout.

Seems to me..these after the purchase problems

Well me and my son have had plenty of Honda bikes and atv's and 2 sxs with no problems my son raced honda dirt bikes every weekend growing no problems just the regular stuff like valves and oil changes maybe Honda will step up I had a 2015 Polaris ranger 900 crew and sold it to buy the 2017 pioneer 1000 3P I hope it turns out to be a good one the only thing Polaris does send out recall notices and well Honda hasn't done anything yet so I wonder if we will get a recall from Honda. I guess we will have to pay for everything that is a problem that Honda is aware of.

Polaris's aren't as bad of a machine as many make them out to be. I think that new Ranger XP 1000 is pretty cool looking.

I tend to agree. My buddies have them and they get hammered and hold up pretty well. I'd own a RZR 1000 XP and may one day as a fun machine. I like the utility of the Pioneer right now.

I agree with about everyone... the thing Honda has is the platform. It's by far the best platform. Now a couple of the workings need a little adjusting. It'll get there, just a matter of when. As long as Honda takes care of those of us who have already bought machines.. there is no room for b****ing!

I could be wrong, but I think comparing a Polaris XP 1000 and a Pioneer 1000 are like apples and oranges.
A Polaris XP1000 is a fun machine. It has killer suspension and rips and tears the trails. The pioneer 1000 is a utility rig with enough muscle to have some extra fun. The XP was made to blast the hell out of everything, the Pioneer was made to have fun, but still be functionable as a work platform. As for heat, dust, doors....they both share common problems.
Bottom line, don't by a Pioneer if all you do is rip and tear, and don't buy an XP 1000 if you want a work rig.
Just my thoughts.
