Hi All

Other than the cheese trail. What's a great place to go with the family. Something 4-6hrs from Chicago?

Thank you for your time

Black river is popular, but imop gets overcrowded. I really like the spooner area. That's probably 6hrs for you. Tomahawk area is good. Hurley/mercer is good too.

4-6 hours from Il, I'd recommend Black River falls because it's the closest fun place but it's dusty and smooth with limited mud or really off road. You'll probably put on 60-80 miles in a good day without hitting the same route twice

Oconto county is probably a bit further but the trails are nice. There's deep sand, rolling hills and great food. Easy to hit 100 miles in a day but you'll back track over a few sections of trail

Dunbar is really far, nearly Michigan or into michigan if you like to ride a lot. Fewer stopping points along the trail but again wooded, trails, rolling hills, mud rocks and sand. Always a good time. Definitely enough trails to ride for a weekend and not ride the same trail twice.

Ill report back in a month when I go to the Hurley area and ride the dead horse trail.

Additionally if you want to drive 7 hours the UP has hundreds of miles of trails and lodging to do a multi-day trip

We ride Black River Falls also Hurley area ,something you might want to look into is Harpoles Heartland lodge in Nebo Illinois, we went there this spring it is 1200 acres privately owned with another 200-300 acres of state owned land with trails thru it all, you can do what ever type of riding you want there ,from easy trails to oh damn I don't know if I should be trying this, It was very muddy when we were there which also added to the fun

Oconto county trails are really nice, Marinette county connects to oconto county, Florence county and into the U.P. You can’t go wrong here, Marinette county trails are open all year except during the spring thaw, try the trail from Pembine to Dunbar/Goodman and beyond.. this pic from last winter

I agree... great thread! But, where do you out of towners stay when you head up there? Are you tent camping, hotel or what?

Yep motels also quite a few cabins for rent. Usually cheaper per night than a hotel

Check out Rusk County/Blue Hills Area ATV Trails north of Weyerhaeuser, WI.. About 40 mile ride between Weyerhaeuser and Birchwood with bars, food and lodging on both ends. Rather rustic camping in the middle. This should be the website: Blue Hills Area ATV Trail | Rusk County Wisconsin
Open from late May until early December, I think.
