Ok.. I really like that harness. Ya. Its going on the P1k.
Only question I need answered after some ride time.
Are they in the way when not in use? Like are you sitting on them while they stab you in the back?

No they do not bother you if not wearing them. When I make little trips I have them buckled just like in the picture but spread the shoulder pads off to the side. The lower buckle part just pushes back into the gap between the top and bottom seat sections.

Thanks for the compliments everyone and following along with my build. I had fun putting everything together and it is now trail worthy for the rocky stuff I typically ride in without fear of damaging anything. Glad I was able to do all the installs in a short span of time while it was still showroom clean. Now if I could only get away from work long enough to appreciate it, but no worries in 8 weeks I will get to put it through its paces got 9 days off and will be camped out in Royal Blue riding trails and getting my Pioneer, TN property building site cleared and leveled the last week of October.

Entered it in this months ROTM, should represent the P500 group well. :)

Holy cow over 100 posts and 2100 views need to rename this thread to; "Where Will It End". :p

Just when I thought I was finished the wife wanted better seats, (she was used to those buckets like in a RZR) can't blame her we are both near 50 so comfort means a lot. So I have been researching, measuring, concocting, a plan to make a decent set of UTV suspension seats work in the Pioneer 500. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a set of BEARD Torque Suspension seats made for UTV's they pretty much fit all SxS from 50" on up and after much measuring and comparing to OEM was certain I could make it work in a proper fashion.

My intention is for the new seat to mount in the P500 in the same manner as the OEM seat sections where the front center lower will "hook" under the frame cross member like the OEM plastic but use Aluminum angle iron 1.5" x 1.5" x 1/4" thick and the back center will "latch" onto the upper center brackets like the OEM upper section with a movable spring loaded bracket that will catch the bracket and you simply pull down on it to unlatch the upper half of the seat, tip it forward and pull the bottom back lifting up and removing the seat quickly & easily for easy access. If it works as planned these seats will remove just as easily and quickly as the OEM setup which is pretty ingeniously simple in it own design.

Here is what the seats look like:

0e3719481 1412717103 850 500lr640 x 480

Now for those who mud etc. these seats are not for you as there is no drain where the bottom and back meet, so if you think you may do this use PRP GT MUD Edition Seats (same dimensions & mounting principle) like these:

GT SE MudEditionDrain Standard 570x750 069a4887 06f0 4e50 b7e9 2ce4a7c69181 1024x1024

Hope to have this project done by Thursday evening, will post picture of how is attaches and finish product, plenty of before photos of my P500 in this thread from arriving home showroom stock on 8/7/15 to it's current state.

Well I ended up getting sick last week and never left the house over the past weekend so didn't mess with the seats any. I am hoping to wrap it up tomorrow since I am off and feeling better. Got the seat pans roughed in, bunch of little details work to finish out but the big effort is done. The entire base of the seats rest on these plates and will latch at the bottom front center just like the factory seats, same for the upper latch point in the center back where the 4 point restraint are connected in the photo below.

I hear ya, but with that little hump in the middle you see in the picture in the post above is due to the metal curve coolant line going into the front top of the head. There is no "simple" way around it to effectively install a bench seat of the PRP / Twisted Stich variety.

Well after an 8 day hiatus due to the heat being 95+ and work I didn't mess with my seats anymore until today. Woke up 65 degrees whoohoo fat boy won't melt. Got the seat pans ground down and painted the top side black, left the underside shiny to aid in reflecting heat put off by header pipe only 3 inches away dead center of the seating area.

Worked on finishing up cutting out the lower front seat brackets to where they hook into the OEM location, just made them out of 1.25" x 1.25" 14 gauge angle iron that has 3/8" holes pre drilled every 1". Plenty sturdy and easy to work with. So here is a few pics of todays progress.

First finish up relocating the ECM that normally sits in a tray under the passenger seat. had just enough wire to affix it vertically in front of the fuel tank on the plastic kicker wall, this area look pretty protected and although 6" lower than the factory position don't plan on using the P500 for a substitute submarine. I will leave that to this guy:

Pic of ECM relocated in front of fuel tank: & relocating main fuel line and Winch actuator, bolted the winch actuator into the holes used to clip the main fuel line and moved it over to the side:
20150911 161335 zps680hlczn

Also had to relocate the coil as it too was attached to the center plastic piece, so happens there are a few holes already drilled into the frame near its OEM location, just bolted it into the hole and wrapped it in silicone tape just incase the aluminum seat pan would touch it for any reason this will act as a barrier:

Front seat brackets cut out:

Front seat bracket assembled and mounted:

20150911 130056 001 zpssgjc8goz

That's was it for the afternoon, tomorrow will fabricate the upper attachment brackets that will finish holding the seats in place and button everything up. Dang still got 5 weeks until I have 9 days off to ride in TN, Royal Blue here I come.

I was able to get everything finished up and put together like I wanted with the seats. I intended to fabricate an upper bracket, but after hooking the seat in the front center and situating the back end each seat fit so snugly I decided to forego it. With the 4 point restraint physically looping through the headrest in the upper back and the corner mounts immediately off to he bottom rear corner of each seat there is no where for the seat to go when restraints are fastened. Even without a rider in the passenger seat it stayed snug and did not shift or rattle. These seats barely fit, it they were 1/2' more front to back or side to side they actually would not fit it is that tight.

So I posted the fabrication of the brackets yesterday, here is the seat pans all finished out, fabricated form 0.060" aluminum and painted the top side black to patch interior plastic, in the center hump cut a square section of inner tube 12" wide by 18" long put two slits in it to act as a boot / barrier in the small center open section. Worked out pretty well for as simple as it was.

Here is a few photos I snapped from my shakedown ride between thunder storms. At this point I do not intend to add anything else and consider my build complete for my intended purposes. It's been a lot of fun, so glad Honda made the P500 it is a great machine for it's intended target audience. Without further ado....
