Ha, well like they say, it takes quite the expert to hit anything with a smooth bore long rifle at 300 yards. It’s funny that because the first grizzly Lewis saw and killed was a smaller one that he initially was mocking of the natives having difficulty with them due to the inefficiency of bows and arrows. Then he ran into some big ones that continued on after multiple hits….In one entry Lewis described the grizzly as “a disagreeable gentleman”….😂I’ve made a few 300 yard shots, with a 30.06 and a .243. 30.06 definitely hits harder at that distance. 243 goes straight and flat but not a big hit at that range. You have to hit where you aim. A wounded deer can run a long way. All my deer have been one shot and dropped in their tracks. No suffering.
I’d love to try a musket for that distance
