You know I hate suggesting other brands but when one fits and does a better job it needs credit. The biggest thing we learned about getting kids riding young and building quick confidence is to start them better 2-3 and do it on a pw50. It's so much lighter and easier to control.
Prior we started them on xr50 and was a struggle for many and always a bit scary. The trainers work good on both but usually get left on a while and s***ty on anything but flat ground. She putted but it would tip spin the back tire then catch. She struggled. My daughter kept tipping over and having issues. Once she got her leg stuck she was done. I was crushed seeing this because she was so excited to get off of four wheels and be like her family. She just sat there with that look and didn't even want to ride with me. We did what we do and next weekend surprised her with the people in the woods, we just "found it" with balloons on it. It took an hour till she was riding. Two wheels. Was incredible. These bikes hold there sale and live forever. We taught probably 10 kids who have since moved on. Love that bike for the little ones!

We started my son on an oset electric trials bike. They are super light, with a verry low slung seat like any other trials bike. They sit so low he never used training wheels. Just used his feet at a crawling pace.Search them out, completely ligit. Adjustable torque and top speed. Even after he has out grown it know he still gets on it occasionally just to spin donuts or to try to pop wheelies.

That's a good idea you could probably start them even earlier

the best part of the electric bike we could take it any where a bicycle was allowed. through it in the back of the suv, go to a state park no body cared, one time we approached by a park ranger and thought we were gonna be in trouble but he was only coming over cause he wanted to know more about it and get one for his grandkids

Great thread here by everyone! Here's a few shots of my family and I out riding in the interior of B.C. at Duffy Lake for my son's 40th a year ago. It was around 45 in the day and below freezing overnight. A few days of rain and a few days of sun and dozens of miles of trail riding by everyone. I've got a Suzuki Boulevard that my grandson and I ride together in the summer. I borrow my son's CRF450R or his brother in laws KTM450EXC on trips with my brothers and the family. My son has a set of studded tires for all of their bikes. When the ice fishing is slow they just rip around the lake :) My Grandson started riding a CRF50f at 4 and has loved it since. He turned 10 this December.

Ya other than needing a rear tire cause he burned the tread off of it doing donuts. And my learning curve of properly keeping the batterys maintained. It has handled 2 kids growing up on it. The batterys were cheap $25 dollars for a pair of them. And learned to have a couple on the charger while the others were getting ridden on.

Here me and my step Dad just unloadinding my Italiajet at 7 years old. If it weren't for him I may have never got to ride bikes. He raced top fuel and nitro methane drag bikes. He had the 1/8 mile record for knucklehead Harley. If cancer didn't come around he would still be racing.me and my bro would go to Rawlings Maryland to the dirt drags with our Kx 80s here's us in 1985 thinking we were the sheet.

Do the CRF ! We have two and totally Bullet proof. The yami isn't bad we've had them as well but they aren't as dependable overall

So we ended up going with the kawi klx140l. The crf230 was way to big for her. The 150 was close, but 2" higher seat and 30lbs heavier, with older older steel swing arm and rear drum brakes. It just worked better for her to lug around the woods. Hope it will hold up.

I had dirt bikes as a kid but not too many as an adult. Ill see if I can find that one pic of me on my dt60. It was taken around 1970 lol. My last was a YZ465. Only bike I've ever owned that actually scared the s*** out of me lol. Those old big bore 2 strokes only had 2 power modes....Idling and wide open. Literally impossible to keep front wheel down first 4 gears at wot lol. It was a monster. Fun but still a monster.
Finally!! I've been looking forever for this picture lol. This is around 1973-75 or so. This is what started my love for anything with a motor on it lol.

Very cool pic Delton! I first started on Yamato 80. I wish our family had been better with pictures. It wasn't until recently we realized what they mean.

Ahaha ha I know what you mean about looking for those old pics.Never really think you will ever need them. As I get older and my kids turn me soft I find their emotional value doubles everyday.

I have a horrible memory but I can tell you every detail about my old DT60. 1st gear was gone, no Kickstarter, knee sized dent in gas tank on right side. Loved her.
